About the role

Robotic systems are playing a transformational role in oil and gas, chemical and other process industries. The influence and impact of these technologies will continue to grow over the next few years. Chevron leads this effort with a technical center-led Robotics program with the specific goal of finding the intersection of robotic technology with use cases of high value, developing the business opportunity, testing and evaluating solutions, and driving to full adoption and integration in our Business Units and complex processing facilities. The Robotics Technology Lead will work on developing strategy, identifying and scouting new robotics technologies, testing and evaluating them for Chevron business needs, and drive successful technology towards adoption in Chevron assets and operations. These technologies will be tailored to various areas of application including, but not limited to, inspections, measurements, maintenance etc. Chevron ENGINE supports global operations, and work hours are aligned to business needs. Standard working hours are 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM or 1:30 PM to 10:30 PM, Monday to Friday. These may evolve based on operational or business requirements.

Responsibilities

  • The Robotics Technology Lead will:
  • Work with the Robotics Chapter in Houston for developing enterprise-wise strategy and engage technology champions from specific business units to develop business case for various robotics opportunities.
  • Scout for technologies (e.g. new drones, sensors) in the local and global ecosystems that will add value to the enterprise.
  • Develop testing protocols, plan & execute demonstrations, and deployments for facilities.
  • Lead integration and adoption efforts: Assist business units and facilities to solve adoption and integration barriers and challenges.
  • Mentor less experienced colleagues in robotics and technology scouting areas to build organizational capability. This could potentially include leading a small group of robotics engineers.
  • Work with the external ecosystem to identify and develop innovation opportunities for Chevron ENGINE.
  • Travel to vendor sites, test/research facilities, and universities as required.
  • Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree (post-graduate degree preferred) in mechanical, electrical, chemical engineering, applied physics or related fields with 10 years relevant work experience in the area of robotics and related technology development.
  • Passion for discovery of robotics and advanced sensors technologies. Curiosity and continuous learning attitude. Driven by value and benefit to users of this technology.
  • Demonstrated experience showing a significant effort to work on teams with people of different work backgrounds /skills and interface with business partners, suppliers, competitors, and experts in the field.
  • Experience in leading and/or supporting implementation of successful technology or science-based applications or solutions to complex problems/challenges.
  • Must work constructively with others (inside and outside Chevron) to achieve positive results via the Chevron Way. Must act with integrity and honesty, act decisively, and accept and provide constructive feedback.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills required. Ability to communicate clearly with various stakeholders and represent Chevron in a positive light externally; ability to communicate well and collaborate with teammates and managers during project and tech service work.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, schedule, and manage multiple work activities to meet customer needs and expectations. Must be able to interact with a variety of experience levels and position types.
