Job: Community Director, Residential Life Reporting to the Senior Associate Director of Residential Life, the Residential Life Community Director oversees the daily operation of residence hall communities. The Residential Life Community Director implements educational and community-building initiatives within a residence hall, supervises staff, assists residents, supports the residential student conduct process, and serves on a duty rotation. The Residential Life Community Director also contributes to Barnard's residential student experience through their work on department-wide and campus activities including move-in/out, student leadership development, departmental committees, and assessment. Regular business hours cannot define the typical work week. The position requires some evening and weekend hours, including addressing unpredictable and time-sensitive issues and participating in an on-duty rotation. The Community Director is expected to make the on-campus apartment their primary residence. Job Description: Duties and Responsibilities Emergency and Crisis Response Respond to and manage student emergencies and concerns in collaboration with CARES and other designated campus partners, including while serving on a Residential Life & Housing Duty rotation. Assist with the management of building-specific crisis situations, including issues such as resident well-being, safety and security, and facilities emergencies, and ensure appropriate follow-up with all parties involved. Effectively document relevant incidents and emergency situations. Facilitate appropriate follow-up with students of concern or emergency situations including wellness checks Supervision With guidance from the Senior Associate Director, Residential Life, supervise Resident Assistants (RAs). Provide oversight of the RA implementation and assessment of the residential curriculum Promote teamwork, motivate student staff, and promote resident engagement by building rapport and modeling efficient response to student needs. Host regular check-ins and provide guidance and assistance to RAs. Assist with the selection and training of Resident Assistants Administrative Responsibilities Assists in the implementation of department and College-wide functions and project-based assignments (e.g. opening and closing of residence halls, health and safety inspections of residential rooms, etc.) . Serve on departmental committees as assigned. Attend and participate in department staff and committee meetings. Participate in College and Division committees, events, and other assignments as needed Communicate with students, parents, faculty, and stakeholders as directed by designated leadership. Participate in professional development workshops, conferences, and other learning opportunities to stay current with national best practices. Serve as backup to other Residential Life & Housing roles as assigned to cover absences and other staffing shortages Community Development and Student Support Cultivate positive residential experiences with residents, students, and staff by establishing an active presence and availability within the assigned residential communities. Communicate and enforce department and college standards and policies. With guidance from designated leadership, respond to and process alleged policy violations as reported by staff, students, CARES, or community members with adherence to departmental and College processes. Additional Information Community Directors will maintain an in-person presence in alignment with current department and division-wide policies. Evening and weekend commitments will be required to fulfill the responsibilities of the position from time to time. Based on operational needs, this position may be required to report to work/remain at work even if classes are canceled, and/or the campus is working on limited operations. Community Directors are expected to make their on-campus apartment their primary residence. Community Directors may support one or more residence hall communities during their time in the position and may be reassigned due to departmental or college needs.
