About the role

As a Senior Dispute Resolution officer you will proactively assist in the management and, where possible, early resolution of disputes, ensuring positive outcomes are maximised, you will also provide coaching and guidance to the wider Dispute resolution team, whilst supporting the team. This will be a permanent, full time position based in our Melbourne office, with flexibility to work from home once fully trained.
Responsibilities
- Manage Workplace Injury Commission (WIC) and Arbitration processes by engaging promptly with all stakeholders, ensuring compliance with deadlines, attending conciliation/arbitration conferences, and facilitating timely dispute resolution in line with WorkSafe requirements.
- Review claim files to identify documentation and information needs, including medical reports, independent medical examinations, worker records, or Clinical Advisor reviews.
- Collaborate with Legal Specialists, Claims Teams, employers, worker representatives, and Impairment Specialists to assess disputes, support early resolution, and mitigate litigation risks.
- Provide clear advice to Claims Teams and stakeholders on WIC outcomes, strategic claim management, and scheme issues, while maintaining accurate records in WorkSafe databases.
- In conjunction with the Team Leader identify, develop and implement effective strategies across the dispute resolution process and support the achievement of key performance and remuneration measures.
- ABOUT YOU
- Strong understanding of Victorian workers compensation legislation and case law, the Online Claims Manual, WorkSafe guidelines, processes, Ministerial Directions and other relevant documentation.
- Comprehensive knowledge of, and adherence to, the Ministerial Guidelines as to Authorised Agent, Self-Insurer, Employer and Workers' Assistant Conduct at Conciliation Conference.
- Strong organisational skills and ability to meet legislative, regulator, WIC, Medical Panel, court, organisational and internal client timeframes.
- Strong engagement, negotiation, conflict resolution, people and stakeholder management skills and understanding of the Victorian workers compensation stakeholder environment.
- Extensive experience with Victorian workers compensation disputation and litigation processes or in alternative dispute resolution.
