About the role

A great opportunity for an experienced Pipeline Engineer to join our Distribution team in Kurnell, NSW (preferred location) however flexible to be based in Melbourne or Brisbane. The role ensures the integrity and reliability of Ampol's pipeline network, oversees compliance with design standards (AS2885), coordinates nationwide integrity related activities (including in-line inspections and dig campaigns), and supports asset lifecycle management all while maintaining a safe environment and upholding process safety.

Responsibilities

  • Support pipeline integrity and reliability across Ampol's network, ensuring regulatory compliance and asset performance.
  • Develop and implement inspection, testing, maintenance, and repair strategies, including budgeting and run-length assessments.
  • Coordinate and communicate with internal and external stakeholders to deliver timely project outcomes.
  • Audit compliance with the Pipeline Management System (PMS) and Pipeline Integrity Management Plans (PIMP).
  • Manage mechanical contractors, including procurement, performance monitoring, auditing, training, and ISNetWorld compliance.
  • Oversee Cathodic Protection (CP) systems, including inspection programs, repairs, modifications, and approval of CP reports.
  • Maintain the National Pipeline Register and provide engineering approval for third-party pipeline enquiries (e.g. DBYD).
  • Contribute to engineering solution design, feasibility testing, and continuous improvement of systems, processes, and infrastructure through technical recommendations.

  • Qualification & Experience
  • Engineering degree (Mechanical or equivalent) with AMPP Cathodic Protection Level 2 (or higher) certification.
  • Demonstrated proven experience in hydrocarbon pipeline engineering and integrity management, with strong knowledge of AS2885.
  • Demonstrated expertise in pipeline inspection, maintenance, repair, and application of relevant engineering standards.
  • Strong understanding of HSSE requirements, ensuring safe, compliant, and incident-free operations.
  • Proven project management, leadership, communication, negotiation, and contractor/procurement management skills.
  • Advanced analytical and problem-solving capability, with experience diagnosing engineering issues, supporting technical operations, and driving process improvements.
