About the role
This position supports Mercy's philosophy of patient centered care through continuous improvement strategies including consultation, education and accurate cost and financial data and information used by the Mercy Medical Center executive and management teams allowing them to make informed decisions that directly impact the patient. This position is also responsible for the maintenance, administration and data integrity of the Decision Support Software. Job Description Job Specific Duties/Essential Functions: Extract and analyze financial data including revenue, expenses and statistics for hospital and clinic services. Conduct meetings with organizational leadership, complete time studies, collect relevant data from departments to determine operational workflow and the impact on department costs (including any reclassifications or adjustments that may be needed). Analyze data, determine opportunities and make recommendations to the Executive Team for cost saving initiatives. Educate management team on various costing methods (RCC, RVU and ABC), step down allocations, etc and the impact on departments. Develop and implement patient focused service lines with input from executive and management team members. Develop and implement cost standards within the Decision Support software. Maintain Decision Support System environment with information including but not limited to: patient data, chargemaster, statistics, payroll, general ledger. Complete reconciliations to ensure data integrity. Develop and assign product/patient service lines within Decision Support software. Provide monthly and adhoc decision support reports. Assist Revenue Cycle and Finance staff with payer contract management functions within Decision Support. Completes other duties as assigned. Follows Mercy's safety guidelines, carries out job-specific safety duties and responsibilities, and promptly reports any unsafe conditions, situations, incidents and injuries. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Proven analytical and management skills with demonstrated ability to think logically and critically to draw conclusions from data evidence. Well-developed quantitative and analytical skills including the ability to develop complicated costing models and the ability to explain and communicate their outcomes to others through both written and oral mean. Superior problem solving skills Ability to interact and work collaboratively with leadership, internal and external customers to achieve organizational goals. Ability to work as a team member and work with multiple teams simultaneously. Self-starter - ability to initiate programs, plan activities (including executives and departmental leadership) and make decisions within the framework of the responsibility and authority of this position. Demonstrate an understanding of general accounting concepts such as accrual method of accounting, non cash expenses, etc. Demonstrate an understanding of costing methods (RCC, RVU and ABC), their differences and ability to communicate those methods to others. Demonstrate an understanding of databases and how they function. Must have advanced skills in Microsoft Excel including but not limited to: logical, text, math and statistical formulas and pivot tables and charts. Must be proficient in Microsoft Word. Microsoft Power Point skills preferred. Proficient in utilizing various software packages including general ledger. Professional Experience Required: Minimum of three years of experience in an accounting or costing role. Preferred: Experience in developing, conducting, and implementing cost analysis. Preferred: Healthcare experience. Education Required: Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or related Healthcare field. Licensure, Certification, Registration Preferred: Certified Professional Accountant or Certified Managerial Accountant licensure.
