See this site for more information: https://www.ntu.edu.sg/hhh/cml The Nanyang Technological University (NTU) invites applications for the position of Lecturer in Portuguese at the Centre for Modern Languages, School of Humanities. The successful applicant will be responsible for teaching and coordinating Portuguese language courses across various proficiency levels, managing curriculum alignment, and developing engaging instructional materials. In addition to teaching, the successful candidate will actively participate in administrative duties and academic initiatives that align with the Centre's mission, including coordinating student immersion programs, organizing cultural events, and supporting institutional partnerships to foster intercultural understanding. The lecturer may be involved in the following activities and will be entirely attached to the Center for Modern Languages (CML) Main responsibilities include: Teaching Portuguese language courses, up to 12 hours per week per semester, subject to enrolment and operational needs; Teaching or co-teaching at least one course in Portuguese culture, history, or society per academic year, subject to enrolment and academic approval; Fully coordinating the Portuguese module, such as designing, and managing the Portuguese language programme with the assistance of a CML designated buddy and more; Creating teaching materials and assessment tasks; Expanding and developing the module offerings (levels and classes) to ensure the programme becomes an integral part of CML's language portfolio, minors and majors or according to CML's vision and strategic development; Management of administrative and pedagogical duties (all year long); Ensure adequate publicity (including CML webpage) to promote Portuguese language modules to NTU students. Position NTU as the Centre for Portuguese as a Foreign Language examination in Singapore and, more broadly, across South Asia. Expected Skills and competencies: Demonstrated excellence in teaching Portuguese as a Foreign Language. Ability to work within the CEFR framework and align with CML's teaching pace and standards. Competence in developing learners' four key language skills: listening, speaking, reading, and writing. Capacity to apply these skills to real-world, authentic communicative situations. Strong understanding of the linguistic features of Portuguese. Ability to contextualise and convey relevant cultural concepts. Participate in CML programmes offered to students, including the Minor, LIP, Second Major, Internship schemes, and other relevant initiatives. Excellent administrative skills: the candidate, in charge of the overall administration of the module, must be able to be independent at CML, work with minimum supervision, and promote the module to NTU students by all existing means including creating and editing CML webpage devoted to Portuguese module. Candidates with the following qualifications are encouraged to apply: A Master's degree or Ph.D. in Portuguese Linguistics, Teaching Portuguese as a Foreign Language, or a relevant field Proven track record and expertise in teaching Portuguese to native and non-native speakers, preferably at the tertiary level Strong background in developing foreign language curricula, assessments, and engaging instructional materials Experience in coordinating language programs, study missions, or cultural and academic immersion initiatives Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to effectively collaborate with students, faculty, and international partners A mindset of continual growth, pedagogical innovation, and academic excellence The Centre for Modern Languages seeks a diverse and inclusive workforce and is committed to equality of opportunity.
