About the role
QuantWare is building the world's most powerful quantum processors to solve humanity's greatest challenges. We do this with our unique VIO™ technology, the only QPU architecture that breaks the hardware barriers that have held quantum computing back, unlocking the path to MegaQubit quantum processors. With VIO, we are paving the way for the hyper-scale quantum computers that will change the world. And delivering on that vision demands people who don't shy away from tackling the hardest challenges of our time. That's where you come in! As a Lead Cryogenic Engineer , you will play a key role in scaling and optimising the cryogenic infrastructure that powers our quantum hardware. From achieving near state-of-the-art coherence performance to ensuring high uptime and throughput across our cryostat fleet, your work will directly influence the success of our R&D and product development efforts. You'll lead the commissioning and continuous optimisation of cryogenic systems and infrastructure, enabling the next generation of quantum processors.
Responsibilities
- Core Responsibilities
- Define, build, ramp-up, and operate a large-scale cryogenic test facility, including dilution refrigerators and supporting infrastructure
- Lead the commissioning of new cryogenic systems, achieving full operational readiness within four weeks of delivery
- Own and continuously improve Operational Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) across a growing fleet of cryostats: Quality, Performance, Availability
- Improve cryogenic setup performance, including base temperature stability, coherence, ground loops, and dephasing, targeting near state-of-the-art results
- Develop operational procedures, monitoring, and preventative maintenance strategies to ensure reliable 24/7 operation
- Collaborate closely with hardware, RF, and measurement engineers to support demanding measurement campaigns
- Your Profile
- Deep, hands-on experience with cryogenic systems (dilution refrigerators) and their common failure modes
- Strong practical background in RF measurements and cryogenic RF optimisation
- Demonstrated experience scaling and operating complex technical infrastructure, ideally in an industrial, scale-up, or high-throughput R&D environment
- Comfortable working under performance, uptime, and schedule pressure, making pragmatic engineering trade-offs
- Proactive, detail-oriented, and motivated by turning advanced physics into reliable, repeatable engineering systems
- We particularly welcome candidates with experience in industrial cryogenics, quantum hardware scale-ups, semiconductor test environments, or large experimental facilities.
