About the role
This is a senior leadership role with full accountability for UK terminal operations. You'll be the driving force behind Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) compliance across all sites, while also owning operational performance, cost control, and efficiency. Responsibilities
- Operational Leadership
- Lead, develop, and performance-manage operational teams across UK terminals
- Coordinate vessel discharge operations with agents, stevedores, and depot teams
- Manage maintenance activities and respond to plant breakdowns, adjusting plans as required
- Maintain accurate operational records including stock levels, dispatches, and order tracking
- Conduct regular stock audits and resolve discrepancies in coordination with finance
- Adjust staffing levels, shifts, and schedules to meet operational demand
- Manage operational budgets across terminals, logistics, and staffing
- Monitor and control expenditure against approved budgets, identifying cost-saving opportunities
- Support forecasting, financial planning, and variance analysis with the Finance team
- Provide out-of-hours operational support when required

- Ensure full compliance with UK legislation including COSHH, PUWER, LOLER, and applicable environmental regulations
- Drive a proactive safety culture across employees, contractors, and visitors
- Ensure risk assessments, method statements, and safe systems of work are current and effectively applied
- Oversee incident, near-miss, and hazard reporting with thorough investigation and corrective actions
- Deliver and coordinate HSE training, inductions, and competency programmes including manual handling, working at height, and first aid
- Ensure contractor compliance with site safety rules and company standards
- Support internal and external HSE audits and inspections
- Maintain safe vehicle movement, loading/unloading, and material handling systems across all terminals
Requirements
- NEBOSH General Certificate (Level 3) or equivalent Health & Safety qualification
- Mechanical or electrical engineering qualification
- Proven experience in a senior management or operational leadership role
- Strong background in logistics, shipping, or terminal/depot operations
- Experience managing teams and coordinating complex staffing requirements
- Sound knowledge of UK Health & Safety legislation and regulatory requirements
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Sheets
- Experience with operational management systems such as Opera, XRL, or similar
- Strong analytical and reporting skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Full UK driving licence
- Additional Information
- The role requires regular travel between UK terminal sites and occasional international travel, including to Spain. Candidates must hold a full UK driving licence.
