Job Summary The Faculty of Land and Food Systems is a leader in integrated research and global issues surrounding health and sustainable land and food systems, numbering approximately 45 faculty members, 80 staff, 180 graduate students and over 1500 undergraduate students. Adopting a distributed integrated model, the Faculty is comprised of four major academic programs (Applied Biology, Food, Nutrition & Health, Global Resource Systems and Food, Resource & Economics), five research (i.e.; Applied Animal Biology, Biometeorology & Soil Science, Food, Resource & Economics, Food Science, Human Nutrition, Plant Science and four research centres (i.e. Centre for Sustainable Food Systems at UBC Farm, Dairy Education & Research Centre, Dan On Food and Beverage Innovation Centre, Wine Research Centre ). In addition to the Point Grey campus, the faculty has a satellite site in Agassiz. The EDI.I Specialist is responsible for planning and managing faculty-wide Indigenous and EDI programs and initiatives in the Faculty of Land and Food Systems at the Vancouver campus. Working in consultation with the Associate Dean, Student - EDI.I this role will be responsible for developing, implementing, and managing programs, initiatives, events, and outreach in support of the strategic Indigenous and EDI goals of the Faculty and University. Organizational Status This role reports directly to the Associate Dean, Student-EDI.I. The EDI.I Specialist will collaborate with and provide support to the various units, programs and research centres within the Faculty, working closely with the EDI.I Senior Manager, Indigenous Academic Advisor and the LFS Research Support Team. In addition, the role will collaborate with communities and partners both internal and external to the University to support EDI.I programs and initiatives. Work Performed In consultation with the various Associate Dean(s) portfolios, works with units in leading faculty wide EDI.I projects/ initiatives, including recruitment, student services, award programs, teaching and research. Manages the planning, delivery, and promotion of identified EDI.I programs, services, activities such as EDI.I events, training, program and educational opportunities including talks, speaker series, and workshops for LFS faculty, staff and students, collaborating with the Communication/Marketing team, LFS Research Support Team, LFS HR and Student Services as required. Manages EDI.I projects and initiatives throughout the project life cycle, anticipating and mitigating potential risks and providing advice on the resolutions of issues as they arise to ensure targets are met. Manages EDI.I program and initiative budgets. Contributes to grant/award applications for various funding agencies such as StEAR Enhancement grant and other EDI.I funding opportunities. Contributes to the Awards and Research portfolio, including advising and/or supporting the awards adjudication committees and processes, e.g., in the development of rubrics, assessing award applications when needed. Working alongside the LFS Research Support Team to compile research data related to but not limited to under-representation of equity deserving groups in STEM fields, tracking the diversity of the applicant pool through the Committee review process including evaluation, shortlist, and named award winner(s)summarizing. Plans and manages communications and outreach for EDI.I. and related resources and opportunities, working closely with the LFS Communications & Marketing team to develop marketing, communication, and outreach assets, as well as developing written EDI.I materials.
