Position Overview The Pre-Analytical Laboratory Technician II-GHI is responsible for preparing samples for analysis, recording, and/or verifying patient's information. This role is primarily responsible for performing duties related to accessioning, sample management, problem resolution, data entry, and specimen storage with high degree of proficiency. A successful candidate would be expected to have the ability to swiftly pick up new laboratory process that they are trained in due to experience gained in previous laboratory roles. Potential candidates should be able to demonstrate that they have good documentation practices (GDP) knowledge. Shift: Monday-Thursday, Saturday; 9:00am-5:30pm Monday-Friday: 11:00AM-7:30PM Essential Duties Include, but are not limited to, the following: Perform laboratory tasks, as assigned. Clean and organize common lab areas and take responsibility for all housekeeping tasks being completed on time. Receive, sort, and unpack incoming samples regularly. Unpack, log and track incoming samples using specified software regularly. Perform administrative duties required for incoming samples; including, but not limited to scan needed paperwork, such as pathology reports and requisitions and file physical paperwork per required procedures. Perform order entry and order processing such as in lieu of; including, but not limited to reviewing patient demographics and sample collection. Evaluate insurance and verify billing information. Transcribe relevant medical information from pathology reports or other associated documents such as sample IDs, number or malignant cores, and tumor size. Perform sample accessioning; including, but not limited to, verification of patient demographics, sample ID, and sample labeling. Utilize laboratory information system (LIMS), to review, enter sample information and print required work lists. Perform and record equipment maintenance. May assist in training. Follow and assess established health and safety procedures. Adhere and perform risk assessments as well as understand, train, and enforce safety regulations. Comply with ISO 15189 and QMS. Record data adhering to GDP, strictly follow procedures and proactively raise quality concerns events, when necessary. Maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs). May lead and participate in process improvement activities planned by management and/or engineers. Contribute to overall team goals while still maintaining individual output. Foresee issues and overcomes obstacles to completing tasks or assignments. Participate in continuing education and staff meetings. Performed all assigned tasks under the supervision of designee. Ability to work in a fast pace and changing environment. Flexible and quickly adaptable to changing priorities. Ability to consistently display a positive and patient attitude and extend respect and courtesy toward management and peers alike. Ability to troubleshoot and develop critical thinking skills. Ability to work seated for approximately 75% of a typical workday. Ability to work standing for approximately 25% of a typical workday. Ability to lift to 10 pounds for approximately 10% of a typical workday. Ability to grasp with both hands; pinch with thumb and forefinger; turn with hand/arm; reach above shoulder height. Considerable periods of time may be spent concentrating and or analyzing data. Ability to comply with any applicable personal protective equipment requirements. Ability to use various types of laboratory equipment; including microscopes, microtomes, blades, strainers, and pipettes for extended periods of time. May perform repetitious actions using lab tools. Ability to use near vision to view samples at close range. May be exposed to hazardous materials, tissue specimens, and instruments with moving parts, lasers, heating and freezing elements, and high-speed centrifugation. Ability and means to travel between Redwood City locations.
