About the role

As a Product Manager for Real-Time Insights at Planet, you will lead the charge in transforming how the world interacts with Earth observation data. You will be responsible for a cutting-edge, multi-mission capability designed to collapse the time between "observation" and "action." By leveraging technologies like on-satellite edge computing, rapid tasking, and ultra-low latency downlink, you will enable customers to make critical decisions in minutes, not days. You will own the product lifecycle from concept to launch, navigating the technical trade-offs of space-based processing while ensuring a seamless experience for users in high-stakes environments like emergency response and national defense. This role is central to Planet's mission of making global change visible, accessible and actionable, specifically where every second counts. This is a full-time, hybrid role which will require you to work from our San Francisco office 3 days per week. Impact You'll Own: Define and drive the product vision for Real-Time Insights, prioritizing capabilities like ship/plane identification, cloud avoidance and change detection at the edge. Develop go-to-market strategies and pricing models for premium, low-latency data tiers in coordination with Sales and Finance. High velocity development of near real-time analysis, collaborating with AI teams, Space Systems and Ground Systems to optimize "pixel-to-insight" latency. Gather and prioritize requirements for near real time use cases, ensuring our products meet the needs of defense, security and first-responder customers. Serve as the product and market expert for Real-Time Insights, representing Planet in technical forums and high-level customer briefings. Work with compliance and security teams to ensure all products and services adhere to export control laws, national security constraints, and data privacy standards. What You Bring: 6+ years of Product Management experience, specifically with a track record of launching complex, technical products. Bachelor's degree in a relevant field. Understanding of satellite systems, tasking conops, edge compute and/or data processing. Ability to understand and represent the needs of users in mission-critical, near real time environments such as defense, intelligence, or disaster response. Experience balancing technical trade-offs and customer needs in complex product ecosystems. Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to work independently and as part of a team. Exceptional communication skills, with a knack for explaining complex technical trade-offs to both executive and engineering audiences. Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and prioritize appropriately. Eligibility for US Export Control licenses (ITAR/EAR), as you will be working with sensitive satellite technologies. What Makes You Stand Out: Hands-on experience with Edge AI or deploying algorithms in resource-constrained environments (IoT, Aerospace, or Mobile). Direct experience with the Defense and Intelligence community, particularly in GEOINT or tactical ISR (Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance). Current US Security Clearance or the ability to obtain and maintain one. Application Deadline: June 26, 2026 at 11:59p PT EAR/ITAR Requirements: This position requires access to export-controlled information, and as such, employment (or hiring of a contractor) is contingent upon the candidate's ability to access all applicable export-controlled information without additional export licensing being required by the Bureau of Industry and Security and/or the Directorate of Defense Trade Controls.
