General purpose : MICA's summer PreCollege Art and Design Program is a 2- 4 week intensive college-level experience designed to help participants make the leap from thinking like a high school art student to thinking like an artist making art that reflects a new level of skill and personal vision, communicating ideas about art in daily critiques, and building a professional portfolio of work. PreCollege is designed for rising juniors and seniors. In conjunction with MICA's Mission and Vision, our program provides a welcoming environment for all, and values students of all races and ethnicities, sexual orientations and expressions, creative abilities, religious faiths, political affiliations, and socio-economic backgrounds. Community Assistants (CAs) assist with managing all residential components of the program and model and facilitate a healthy, welcoming community. CAs host programs, and supervise PreCollege students. 2026 Program Dates: Move In: June 30-July 1, 2026. Training: July 6-July 10. Program Starts: July 12. Program Ends: August 8,. Final Clean-up: August 8-11. Summary of Essential Functions Support all residential and community aspects of the PreCollege program while living on campus in residence with other program staff and students Be on call throughout the duration of the program, including evenings and weekends and assist with any student needs as they arise Assist with the successful implementation of the PreCollege programming. The variety of tasks associated with this position involve administrative, clerical, physical, organizational and leadership skills Essential Duties & Responsibilities Work with the Pro Staff to plan, implement, and participate in social, cultural, and artistic programming that address student interests and needs. These events may take place in the evenings or on weekends Model, implement and enforce Pre-College program policies, rules, and regulations Assist with all student move-in, and move-out activities, including welcoming families, assisting with moving items, helping to clean rooms, and answering any questions Work with Pro Staff to ensure a safe and positive residential experience for students Facilitate and encourage students to develop and maintain healthy interpersonal relationships, personal wellness, and providing support and guidance as needed Provide support, interventions, and referrals when appropriate for individual student needs Model and enforce PreCollege program policies, rules, and regulations and act as an ambassador for the program Perform other related duties as assigned Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Ability to maintain excellent and mature judgment Excellent written, verbal and oral communication skills Knowledge of art and design processes and disciplines Knowledge of MICA's campus, equipment and resources Ability to manage others, provide leadership and guidance as necessary Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously with efficiency and accuracy Consistently be able to implement program policies and regulations while serving as a role model of appropriate behavior
