Position Overview The Accommodations Counselor provides case management and support services for students with disabilities by evaluating documentation, conducting intake interviews, coordinating accommodations, and maintaining accurate records. The counselor advocates for students, facilitates referrals, and collaborates with faculty and staff to promote student success. The position requires knowledge of disability laws and best practices, strong communication and organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Accommodation Coordination and Support Evaluate and interpret disability documentation submitted by students. Conduct intake interviews with students seeking accommodations. Coordinate accommodation services and academic adjustments. Maintain student records and case management files Document student interactions, accommodation plans, and progress. Manage student outreach activities and events. Utilize word processing and spreadsheet applications to maintain records and track services. Makes recommendations for process improvements or administrative changes Supervises, trains, and evaluates the work of others Determining and implementing reasonable accommodations for students with disabilities Accessibility, Compliance and Accommodation Administration Ensure accommodations comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Section 504, and applicable federal and state regulations. Determine reasonable accommodations and academic adjustments based on documentation and institutional policies. Address confidentiality concerns related to disability information. Consult with faculty and staff regarding disability laws, regulations, and institutional procedures. Assist in resolving disability-related concerns in accordance with university policies. Program Development and Assessment Create, develop, and implement student outreach programs and events. Develop training materials and educational resources for faculty, staff, and students. Support departmental initiatives designed to improve accessibility and inclusion. Participate in special projects that enhance disability services and student success efforts Monitor and track student progress and accommodation effectiveness. Compile, prepare, and submit semester program reports. Collect and analyze service utilization data. Document outcomes and maintain records for compliance and assessment purposes. Consultation, Collaboration, and Advocacy Meet with students to discuss accommodation needs and service options. Communicate with faculty regarding approved accommodations and implementation procedures. Provide direct assistance and individual advocacy for students with disabilities. Deliver presentations, consultations, and training sessions. Demonstrate strong written and verbal communication in correspondence, documentation, and reporting. Strong interpersonal and organizational skills. Serve as a liaison between students, faculty, staff, and campus departments. Facilitate referrals to campus services and community resources. Collaborate with campus partners to ensure students have access to appropriate support services. Conduct consultations and training for campus and community stakeholders.
