ALS has an exciting opportunity for a new Section Head to join the Microbiology Department. The day to day Analyse or assist in the analysis of samples to enable results to be reported in a timely manner to customers Ensure that all results obtained by the team are calculated, checked, entered and approved onto the internal LIMS system without delay. Ensure work is completed each day and that all check sheets have been completed fully. Ensure staff are properly trained and have adequate supervision to perform tasks given to them and to constantly monitor work quality and results obtained, instigating repeat determinations should there be any doubt about their validity. Keep track of staff training on an on-going basis to ensure that all analyses can be performed competently Check stock levels for laboratory supplies and notify relevant staff when stock needs to be ordered. Ensure that agreed quality and safety systems are continually adhered to by the team such as calibration checks, internal quality controls, daily checks, and spiked samples. Perform work as allocated by the Microbiology Laboratory Managers and other duties as required to the high standards of quality required. The Essentials Hold a Scientific Degree and / or have several years of experience working in a high throughput laboratory. Technically competent in food microbiology analysis across a range of methodology and procedures. Proficient user of Microsoft Office programs. Good organisational skills, ability to work on own initiative and prioritise workload.
