About the role
Chevron ENGINE has an exciting opportunity for a Marine Vetting Specialist to join the Subsea Marine, Civil & Shipping team. Reporting to the Manager, this role will be based in Chevron's office in Bengaluru. This position is a functional member of Chevron Shipping Company's (CSC) Marine Assurance department. Marine Assurance department helps internal and external customers meet their marine transport needs safely by managing risks related to third-party vessels and operators. The Marine Vetting Specialist ensures safe and efficient marine transportation by assessing third-party vessels and operators. Responsibilities include collecting and evaluating vessel, port, and terminal data, applying marine risk management principles, and recommending process improvements. The role involves liaising with internal stakeholders, participating in industry workgroups, and maintaining compliance with international regulations such as MARPOL and SOLAS. Strong analytical skills, familiarity with SIRE systems, and effective communication across global teams are essential. Candidates should demonstrate sound judgement, teamwork, and the ability to manage multiple priorities while upholding operational excellence and safety standards. The applicant should have a maritime background and should have sailed onboard as an experienced Senior engineer or deck officer. The applicant should be self-motivated and driven, have demonstrated technical competencies to enhance Chevron Shipping's Marine Assurance strategies, be open to challenging the status quo and explore use of new tools/ technologies to enhance efficiency, and be willing to collaborate and work effectively with global teams, across different time zones. Chevron ENGINE supports global operations, and work hours are aligned to business needs. Standard working hours are 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM or 1:30 PM to 10:30 PM, Monday to Friday. Responsibilities
- Pro-actively collect, evaluate and provide vessel, port and terminal information. Work with internal customers to understand their business needs.
- Recommend improvements to guidelines, requirements and procedures to enhance the clearance process.
- Participate in industry work groups and develop and maintain industry relationships which facilitate Chevron business.
- Ability to apply in-depth broad marine operational knowledge and skilled application of marine risk management principles including the identification of marine risks and safeguards preferred.
- Familiarity with industry organizations, practices, rules, and various regulatory conventions such as MARPOL, SOLAS etc. required. Working knowledge of SIRE System preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with management, peers and customers across disciplines and geographies.
- Utilizes and applies operational excellence (OE) Processes to own work activities.
- Applies solid risk management judgement and skills.
- Ability to manage multiple assignments.

- To be considered for this role, applicants should have:
- Senior licensed deck officer or marine engineer officer [Master, Chief Engineer, Chief officer, First engineer (Second Engineer - India system)] with sailing experience of minimum five years, at least one year as senior officer.
- Demonstrated Safety Performance/Managing Safe Work - Utilizes and applies Marine Assurance and Corporate wide OE processes in work activities.
