The applicant's background must also include one of the following: A certificate as a Certified Internal Auditor or a Certified Public Accountant, obtained through written examination; OR Completion of the requirements for a degree that included substantial course work in auditing or accounting, e.g., 15 semester hours. Specialized Experience Statement: GS-9: To qualify at the GS-9 level, you must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-07 level that includes serving on an audit team and assisting in performing audit tasks to include: researching laws, regulations, guidelines, or procedures for projects or assignments; collecting, organizing or analyzing information; ensuring that evidence collected is sufficient, relevant, competent and properly documented; contributing to the development of audit findings that are convincing and well-supported and contain all required elements; participating in meetings with key officials of the audited activities to obtain necessary information and discuss audit findings; and preparing segments of audit or inspection reports that provide a logical structure for presenting the audit results. GS-11: To qualify at the GS-11 level, you must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-9 level that includes serving on an audit team and assisting in performing a variety of complex performance audit assignments to include: contributing to the development of audit programs and plans; collecting and analyzing data; ensuring that evidence collected is sufficient, relevant, competent and properly documented; developing audit findings that are convincing and well-supported and contain all required elements; conducting segments of meetings with key officials of the audited activities to obtain necessary information and discuss audit findings; and preparing segments of audit or inspection reports that provide a logical structure for presenting the audit results. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g. Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
