About the role

The employee's role enables them to work at a GM facility or off-site as frequently as needed or desired The GM Fleet Special Vehicle Manufacturers (SVM) team is comprised of highly skilled professionals with expertise in partner relations, order management, product resolution, and sales support. This team supports sales activities for GM Fleet field staff and external upfit partners (Special Vehicle Manufacturers). The Assistant Manager, Special Vehicle Manufacturers serves as GM Fleet's primary point of contact for high-volume commercial and vocational body modification companies. This role is accountable for strengthening external partnerships, overseeing product distribution, and ensuring compliance with SVM program standards to deliver work-ready vehicles to our commercial dealer network, major fleet customers, and government agencies. A key focus of this position is to provide oversight of product distribution and compliance with the SVM Agreement, which outlines the standards and requirements for maintaining an active relationship with GM.

Responsibilities

  • Establish and maintain positive, productive business relationships with external SVM partners and other key stakeholders.
  • Provide oversight of existing long-term SVM contractual agreements, including coordinating compliance documentation and conducting on-site inspections.
  • Evaluate and recommend future upfitter partner relationships to support strategic sales growth and market opportunities within commercial and vocational segments.
  • Prepare commercial product forecasts (short- and long-term) to support sales planning, capacity, and inventory decisions.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Order Fulfillment, Logistics, Product Engineering, Marketing, Service, and Finance to support seamless execution.
  • Lead the allocation process for distributing incomplete vehicles to upfit partners and approve orders for submission to Order Fulfillment.
  • Develop, launch, and communicate incentive and marketing programs to support sales of fleet and small business upfitted vehicles.
  • Coordinate SVM partner participation in shows and events supporting First Responders, Commercial Upfits, Recreational Vehicles, and Accessibility solutions.
  • Establish, manage, and maintain the Ship-Thru Code process to ensure accurate and efficient routing of vehicles through upfit partners.
  • Lead and support special projects for GM Fleet as business needs arise.
  • Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Marketing, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years' experience working with upfitters, commercial product forecasting, fulfillment or related experience
  • High level of organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Working knowledge of order management and vehicle logistics processes.
  • Strong customer focus with a service-oriented mindset.
  • High level of interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively across all levels of the organization and with external partners.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Ability and willingness to travel periodically, as business needs require.
  • What Can Give You a Competitive Advantage (Preferred Qualifications)
  • Prior automotive OEM district sales manager experience.
  • Direct fleet customer contact experience.
  • Experience with dealer networks, accounts receivable, or other commercial operations disciplines.
  • Experience with contract management, including interpretation, compliance, and ongoing administration.
