Job Family: Student Work Study Department: Student Employment Supervisor: Jose Gonzalez Matos Job Title: Mental Health Technician - NAMI of Central GA Job Description: ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES - Supervise residents in all daily aspects of the residential program - Lead group and group activities - Act as liaison with care providers and case workers to ensure program and quality of life is in the best interest of the resident - Communicate effectively with doctors, family members, staff and others - Assist in the administration of medications, replenishment of medications and ensure proper documentation of same - Become familiar with each resident's diagnosis and care plan to ensure program and activities are helping to meet outcomes - Serve as a role model for residents - Maintain complete, accurate, and current program documentation and records - Appropriate documentation of residents medical, behavioral, and physical changes - Redirect resident's behavior and intervene regarding inappropriate behavior - Possess patience and understanding when assisting aggressive residents to effectively meet treatment needs, while complying with human rights regulations - Provide supervision and assistance to residents, not limited to assisting with bathing, dressing and grooming - Provide coverage for shifts and hours as needed - Transport and accompany residents to and from medical appointments, recreational activities, shopping trips and other scheduled activities as assigned by supervisor - Coordinate daily schedules and duties/activities of the residents - Perform duties essential to program welfare (i.e., grocery shopping, laundry, cleaning, other household duties) - Assist, monitor, or prompt the resident to complete the above items - Prepare meals for the residents, grocery shop if necessary, and clean up after meal preparation - Ensure the home and equipment remain clean, sanitary, and in good working condition - Participate in continuing education programs, seminars, workshops, and in-services to improve professional knowledge of intellectual disabilities - Participate in all staff and collaborative meetings as required or needed - Effectively handle challenges, complaints, conflicts, and incidents in a patient, respectful, agreeable, and diligent manner with minimal supervision - Work in tangent with the Residential Manager and Executive Director to maintain policy and procedures, resident medication, and a professional appearance - Continuously enhance the lives of the residents by utilizing all principals of normalization and treat residents with consideration, respect, dignity, integrity, individuality, and recognize their needs - Maintain certifications, licensures, and records as required or needed - Prepare reports on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis regarding the metrics of staff and group home's residents and duplex - Perform all other relevant job duties as assigned by immediate supervisor PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL DEMANDS - Frequent use of hands, wrists, and fingers and lifting or moving up to 50 lbs. may be required - Movements such as stooping, crouching, bending, kneeling, climbing, and reaching are required - Noise and/or level of distractions in the work environment is moderate - Specific vision abilities required by this position include close, distance, and peripheral vision - Ability to operate a motorized vehicle and have reliable transportation - Performs household cleaning chores such as washing dishes, doing laundry, and mopping QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS - Age 18 or older with a high school diploma or GED, bachelor's degree preferred but not required - TB screening, First Aid/CPR, and Proxy Caregiver Certifications are a must (will provide) - Non-Profit experience is a plus - Preferred experience working with the mentally ill - Minimum one-year experience in healthcare/insurance/caregiving - Valid Georgia driver's license with a clean MVR (Motor Vehicle Report) - Live within commuting distance of the NAMI facility, group home, and duplex - Proficient computer/office equipment skills - Strong oral and written communication skills - Ability to multitask - Possess strong decision-making and problem-solving skills - Critical listening and thinking skills - Strong time management skills - Pay Rate
