Department Music Job Summary Job Description The School of the Arts/Department of Music at the University of New Orleans invites applications for an Open Professor (tenure-track to tenured) position in Music with an expertise in Jazz improvisation, theory, performance and/or composition. A secondary expertise in music business, music technology and/or music production is also highly desirable. The successful candidate will be an inspiring individual dedicated to mentorship, with a deep understanding of the history of Black American music and jazz education, and a visionary approach to the future of both. This position is responsible for 12 academic units per semester (4/4). The typical teaching load is 9 units per semester, with the expectation of service and research/creative activity to fulfill the remaining 3 units. Responsibilities include teaching graduate and undergraduate courses in jazz as needed, as well as other courses that are within the candidate's secondary area of expertise. Other responsibilities include audition reviews, participation in the Jazz at the Sandbar series, recruitment, community outreach, inclusion on department, school, college and/or university committees and other support of the administrative functions of the unit.
