The Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant (Tier III) works collaboratively as part of a multi-disciplinary healthcare team. Provides care for patients both in the outpatient clinic and the inpatient setting and addresses both acute and chronic issues in managing disease and treatment-related complications. Collects, documents and analyzes patient data; collaborates in the development and implementation of treatment plans; coordinates patient care with ancillary clinical services; makes appropriate referrals to consulting medical staff; provides follow up to referring physicians; may orient or precept students and new staff. Performs other related duties as assigned or directed to meet the goals and objectives of the institution. Tier III Advanced Practitioners work a combination of days and nights or straight nights, including weekdays, weekends, and holiday. APPs on Tier III are expected to work one weekend every four weeks and three holidays a year. For consideration for this position, candidates must have passed the certification exam for either Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner. For Nurse Practitioner, Acute Care Certified Pediatric Nurse Practitioner certification is highly preferred. Job Responsibilities: Performs patient care duties in the designated service according to established standards, general and services specific scopes of care, policies and procedures, and patient-specific protocols. Annually demonstrates performance competency in each of the following: Obtains medical, family and social histories, performs physical examination, orders appropriate and interprets appropriate diagnostic studies and laboratory tests, Interprets patient data to accurately diagnose disease and disease stage, Identifies appropriate medical treatment, whether protocol or non-protocol, participates in the implementation of appropriate medical treatment. May write orders as permitted by the Clinical Staff Rules and Regulations, monitors and evaluates patient response to medical treatment, facilitates appropriate patient referrals, provides patient and family support, provides patient follow-up to other health care providers, including referring physicians, performs diagnostic procedures as prescribed by treatment guidelines or as indicated by changes in clinical status. Collects and records data as required by utilizing effective verbal and written communication skills to obtain and document patient information in the medical record or other records as required. Monitors treatment guideline/clinical research flow sheets and other pertinent written records and participates in scholarly dissemination of research data. Collaborates in the development of clinical research flow sheets by assisting in the collection, analysis and interpretation of historical patient data. Assists in research by careful collaboration in the development of clinical research objectives and the implementation of, and adherence to clinical trial protocols. Accurately records information according to medical and research requirements. Educates patients, families, students and participates in the orientation of new employees. Assesses the learning needs and abilities of patients and families, to facilitate their development of self-care. Effectively communicates verbally and in writing. Orients and precepts advanced practice students, medical residents, nursing visitors, medical and nursing fellows in clinical areas.
