Requirements

• At least three years pharmacy technician experience required. Hospital experience preferred.
• Education
• Education as required for State of California Pharmacy Technician licensure.
• Must pass orientation and initial competency assessment prior to independent assignment requiring the applicable skill, and must complete and pass all annual competencies.

Job Description: Under the leadership of the department director and/or the assistant director of pharmacy operations, the pharmacy technician is responsible for assisting in pharmacy department activities not requiring a pharmacist's professional judgment. Duties/responsibilities include, but are not limited to, maintaining patient records/drug profiles, unit dose medication preparation, sterile product preparation, pharmaceutical calculations, data entry into pharmacy computer systems, filling and managing automated dispensing devices, sterile IV and non-sterile additive and chemotherapy compounding, and assisting the pharmacist in providing quality pharmaceutical care. Important dimensions of this position consist of professional commitment, team work, interpersonal skills, safety, good customer relations, fiscal responsibility and broad pharmacy knowledge.
