The New York City Law Department is accepting applications for the position of Deputy Chief of its Labor and Employment Law Division, which represents the City in complex and challenging state and federal actions arising out of the City's role as an employer. Division attorneys handle a variety of matters including First Amendment retaliation; gender, race, age and disability discrimination; civil service law issues; and wage and hour litigation. The Deputy Chief will assist the Chief in both the oversight of the work of the division in all practice areas and with the management of the division's approximately 60 attorneys and 20 professional support. The Deputy Chief may also advise Mayoral agencies on labor and employment matters. The Deputy Chief will also be responsible for coordinating training of Division attorneys and support professionals as well as help ensure that support professionals are effectively utilized in the Division workflow. ASSISTANT CORPORATION COUNSEL - 3011B Applicants should have extensive experience litigating and providing counseling in labor and employment law, together with a history of successful supervision and management of attorneys and legal support professionals, excellent oral and written communication skills and good interpersonal skills.
