The New York City Fire Department (FDNY) seeks a full-time Assistant Commissioner for the Candidate Investigation Division. Reporting directly to the Deputy Commissioner for Human Capital , the successful candidate will lead the day-to-day operations of the Candidate Investigation Division (CID). CID is responsible for the on-boarding process of all FDNY job applicants and classes of candidates for firefighter, emergency medical service titles, fire alarm dispatcher and fire protection inspector. The Assistant Commissioner for Candidate Investigation will manage a staff of approximately 30 employees comprised of Deputy Directors, supervising investigators, investigators, and administrative personnel. Additional responsibilities include but are not limited to: - Managing and leading Candidate Investigation personnel in all aspects of the employment background investigations and employment qualifications of all potential candidates. - Ensuring candidates for employment are provided exceptional customer service and a welcoming and professional experience. - Working closely with the FDNY Legal division to ensure adherence to all applicable rules and laws and to fulfill court-mandated reports and inquiries. - Fostering a collaborative work environment within and across divisions and bureaus. - Advising Human Resources on candidate employment qualifications. - Coordinating with the Bureaus of Fire Suppression, Emergency Medical Services, Training and Health Services regarding medical/psychological qualifications of potential candidates. - Working with Human Resources and Uniformed Personnel to ensure the hiring of qualified candidates. - Providing guidance to FDNY senior leadership on matters related to the pre-screening of potential candidates. - Serving as liaison to the Department of Citywide Administrative Services on matters related to background investigations and employment qualifications.
