Job Requisition JR24167 Worker Time Type Full time Worker Sub-Type Regular Shift Job Description POSITION PURPOSE The Refurb Technician I is responsible for inspecting, repairing, and refurbishing insulated ice storage units to restore structural integrity, functionality, and appearance. This role performs hands-on mechanical and structural repairs, replaces damaged components, and ensures all units meet safety, quality, and operational standards. Leads, collaborates and demonstrates the lean principles and utilizes the lean methodologies and tools to facilitate continuous process improvements and value creation for our customers, employees and shareholders. Actively utilizes lean tools (VSM, Kaizen, A3, etc.) to inform and assess business opportunities to drive continuous improvement. Lead and participate in Kaizen and value stream mapping activities. DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES Inspect ice boxes and storage units to assess damage and determine necessary repairs. Remove and replace damaged panels, doors, seals, hinges, insulation, and internal components. Repair dents, corrosion, cracks, and general structural damage. Perform structural repairs to ensure units maintain proper insulation and integrity. Sand, grind, and prepare surfaces for coating, sealing, or refinishing. Apply protective coatings, sealants, or finishes as required. Install replacement components and ensure proper fit, alignment, and sealing. Use welding, fabrication, or bonding techniques when needed. Conduct final quality inspections to ensure units meet operational, safety, and appearance standards. Conform to all company, federal state, and local guidelines for quality, environmental, and safety standards. Maintain and control and safeguard the inventory of all merchandiser refurbishment parts and supplies as well as the merchandisers themselves. Work continuously to improve the refurbishment centers operations, utilization, and cost control. Ensure standardized work processes are followed. May assist plant merchandiser techs for service calls, preventive maintenance calls, and box deliveries/pickups. May assist with loading and unloading boxes received and shipped out of the refurb centers as well as parts shipments coming in. Coordinate when boxes or supplies are received or shipped out with the lead supervisor and ensure the proper transfer paperwork is given to the appropriate leader. Champion a safety-first culture by upholding the highest safety standards, consistently adhering to all company safety and compliance protocols, and properly using all required personal protective equipment (PPE). Maintain the cleanliness and organization of the refurbishment center itself as well as all tools, inventories, and any and all equipment and grounds surrounding the center. Work effectively in a team environment and assist co-workers or managers with other duties as required. Adhering to the Code of Business Ethics is essential. EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE High School Degree or GED required Trade School certificate preferred but not required 1-3 years of experience in mechanical repair, fabrication, or similar field preferred Knowledge of basic mechanical and structural repair techniques. Ability to read and follow work orders, repair specifications, and diagrams. Welding, grinding, and fabrication skills (preferred). Attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship. Ability to use hand tools, power tools, and measuring equipment. Understanding of safety procedures and handling of materials and chemicals. Highly organized and dependable, ensuring punctuality and readiness for assignments. WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS This position mainly works at the plant repair shop. Exposure to hazards from electrical and mechanical equipment; possible use of paint. Some heavy lifting, pushing and pulling required; Units on top of box weigh approximately 150 lbs.; must be able to move merchandisers with proper equipment (700 - 800 lbs).
