Responsibilities

  • Manage parametric mechanical Revit families and content to agreed LOD/LOIN requirements, ensuring model elements carry correct shared parameters, classification codes, system types, and asset data per the project's BIM Execution Plan and Employer's Information Requirements (EIR).
  • Produce model-derived schedules and data exports - duct and pipe sizing schedules, equipment lists, plant room layouts, pressure drop summaries, and sprinkler head counts - ensuring consistency between model data and engineering documentation.
  • Translate mechanical engineering design intent from schematic layouts, P&IDs, engineers' mark-ups, and calculation outputs into accurate, fully coordinated 3D model geometry and associated 2D documentation; escalate design conflicts or ambiguities to the responsible engineer promptly.
  • Enforce model quality and BIM compliance through regular health checks covering system naming conventions, family parameter completeness, flow direction tagging, view template application, and workset discipline; document findings and drive corrective action within the project team.
  • Self-check all model outputs and drawing deliverables prior to engineer review for completeness, graphical accuracy, and compliance with applicable BIM standards, project-specific requirements, and team BIM protocols.
  • Review deliverables produced by junior mechanical BIM modellers, providing structured feedback and documenting outcomes in the project record in accordance with team QA procedures.
  • Coordinate mechanical model interfaces with other MEP disciplines and with architectural and structural models through formal interdisciplinary clash detection sessions; independently resolve routine spatial conflicts and escalate structural or design-intent conflicts to the relevant engineer.
  • Maintain programme awareness for assigned mechanical scopes; flag risks to model completion or coordination resolution proactively to the BIM lead or project manager.
  • Integrate engineering data from equipment data sheets, vendor drawings, manufacturer submittals, and survey information into the mechanical model; flag inconsistencies or missing data to the responsible engineer for resolution.
  • Support tender and procurement packages by extracting model-derived quantities, equipment schedules, and material take-offs for inclusion in bill-of-quantities or specification annexes, for review by the responsible engineer prior to issue.
  • Provide day-to-day guidance and practical BIM training to junior modellers on mechanical modelling workflows, family creation, CDE procedures, system configuration, and drawing production standards.
  • Contribute to knowledge-sharing sessions, internal CPD events, and lessons-learned reviews; proactively identify and advocate for improvements to team BIM standards, model templates, and mechanical family libraries.
  • Qualifications & Experience:
  • Required:
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in mechanical or building services engineering; or an HND/HNC combined with substantial demonstrable BIM modelling experience in mechanical building services.
  • Extensive BIM modelling experience for mechanical building services projects; advanced Revit MEP proficiency covering HVAC ductwork, pipework routing (heating, cooling, plumbing, fire protection), plant equipment placement, family creation, and model-derived drawing and schedule production.
  • Thorough working knowledge of ISO 19650, BS EN 1192-2, LOD/LOIN frameworks, BIM Execution Plan requirements, and CDE classification and naming conventions.
  • Solid understanding of mechanical system design principles - air distribution topology, duct and pipe sizing constraints, plant room spatial requirements, plumbing system configu
