The Clinical Director of Education and Practice Integration is responsible for overseeing the overall education and competency validation across USC Care Ambulatory practice sites, 1206D and non 1206D designated. The Clinical Director develops and disseminates educational materials with a focus on ambulatory care delivery by clinical support staff (MA, LVN, RN, technologist when applicable). Educational content includes, but is not limited to, policies and procedures, state and federal regulatory requirements, and industry best practice care delivery. He or she partners with information technology colleagues for clinical work flows and training. The Clinical Director is responsible to remain knowledgeable about current, evident-based medicine including new trends in ambulatory care delivery. His or her knowledge and experience informs development and maintenance of policy and procedure governing ambulatory care. The Clinical Director anticipates training needs of ambulatory clinical support staff and develops training activities to ensure appropriate and safe care. Support staff clinical care is verified through a competency validation process. The Clinical Director ensures that updated, relevant tools are available for staff and provides instruction on completion. Adherence to the competency validation process remains with the staffer under supervision of the local leader. The post leads the clinical arm of practice integration and serves as a partner to and team member of the integration business unit. The clinical diligence role includes, but is not limited to, analysis of practice operation such as services and procedures rendered, staffing model, job descriptions, competency validation tools, practice site clinical work flows, medical supplies and equipment. He or she oversees practice integration readiness training including Fire and Life Safety, emergency response, and relevant policy and procedure education. The post participates in fit-up of new space and Day-In-the-Life exercises as needed. The Clinical Director, as a leader supporting growth and expansion of the organization, may serve to oversee management of a practice site. As such, the post participates in financial management, risk management, quality assurance compliance, patient care management, and teammate management. This role provides leadership and direction to assure safe, efficient, therapeutic and ethical patient care and positive teammate relations. He or she has full supervisory responsibilities for Clinic Managers within their assigned area including but not limited to hiring, termination, disciplinary procedures, mentoring, professional development, annual review, salary increases. The Clinical Director operationalizes the growth and development of the practice(s) and new service opportunities by utilizing the proper allocation of resources and sound financial management. He/she also offers leadership and guidance to managers under his or her supervision, effectively delegating responsibilities and duties. Achieves a collaborative working environment. Essential Duties: ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The following duties and responsibilities generally reflect the expectations of this position but are not intended to be all inclusive: - Oversee education and competency validation across USC CARE Ambulatory practice sites. - Assess ambulatory clinical workflows and develop policies and procedures to ensure appropriate and safe clinical care. - Develop educational material. - Disseminate educational material and updated information relative to ambulatory healthcare delivery. - Develop and execute or oversee training for clinical support staff. - Maintain repository of competency validation tools that are up-to-date and relevant. - Ensure that ambulatory managers are updated and participate in the process for competency validation. PRACTICE INTEGRATION: - Conduct clinical diligence of a potential merger, acquisition, new build. - Assess clinical operation including services, staffing model, staff files if applicable, job descriptions, staff competency. - Lead practice integration readiness training. - Participate in Day-in-the-Life and Mock Walk exercises. - Support licensing site visit as needed. RISK MANAGEMENT/QUALITY ASSURANCE COMPLIANCE: - Ensure that designated unit(s) meet all internal and external Standards of Conduct as well as all legal and regulatory requirements - Ensure that appropriate state and federal agency compliance is reported. (i.e. Medicare, State Licensing Boards, etc.) - Coordinate internal audit visits, data collection and reporting per organizational policy - Ensure the creation and implementation of any corrective action needed as a result of internal or external quality assurance, Medicare, OSHA, or other governing agency audit - Ensure compliance with state Worker Compensation and OSHA safety training requirements - Oversee quality assurance activities (timely reporting, follow-up, distribution)
