Senior Firmware Engineer, Controls Systems

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and maintain embedded firmware for real-time motor control, sensing, and system monitoring
• Debug complex system-level issues where root cause may span software, firmware, hardware, or component behavior
• Use hardware debugging tools such as oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and DMMs to diagnose timing, signaling, and electrical issues
• Act as a technical bridge between hardware and software, collaborating closely with EEs, controls, motion planning, and systems engineers
• Advise leadership on technical decisions and strategy
• Mentor and advise other engineers as well as peers on technical and personal advancement
• Drive technical decision making and implementation through hands-on and technically deep work
• Software Stack and Ownership Areas
• The Systems Group focuses on foundational technologies including motor and actuator control, embedded communications, system health monitoring/logging, and hardware bring-up.
• Tech Stack
• MCUs: STM32
• Languages: C / C++
• RTOS: FreeRTOS or similar
• Supporting Systems: Linux host OS, NodeJS / TypeScript, Docker
• Tooling: GitHub Actions, CI/CD

Requirements

• 💡 We do not require or favor any background in robotics
• We're looking for engineers who are self-driven, optimistic, creative, and resourceful. We have no requirements for a background in robotics, but find most success with engineers excited by the domain and looking to apply their expertise and experience in a new, fascinating area.
