About the role
The Architectural Designer will be responsible for developing design concepts, producing technical drawings, and collaborating with project teams to bring innovative architectural solutions to life. Under minimal direction, this position oversees and manages all aspects of outsourced and in-house maintenance, renovation, remodel, and construction projects and all special projects assigned. ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES Develops conceptual plans and budgets for the Facility Department's projects to support fiscal decision making. Designs, develops, produces drawings and monitor construction of architectural projects. Prepare detailed drawings, plans, and 3D models using design software (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit, Adobe, SketchUp) Prepares requests for proposals and conducts all necessary meetings to facilitate hiring of architectural and construction management services. Coordinates, monitors, and reports to the Facilities Manager on all phases of planning (short and long term) and construction. Develops recommendations for the selection of professional services, conducts preconstruction conferences, reviews bids, prepares construction contracts and monitors their execution and distribution. Reviews contract plans and specifications for compliance with appropriate building codes and project requirements. Assists in the development and implementation of operation budgets related to assigned projects and monitors costs/expenditures to ensure adherence to such, as well as established project financial goals and objectives. Analyzes and evaluates effectiveness and cost efficiency in maintenance methods. Recommend and implement adjustments as necessary to increase efficiency, improve operations, decrease response and turnaround times and streamline work processes. Confers with local, state, and federal agencies, and consults various data sources concerning regulatory compliance and requirements for maintenance and construction activities. Assists in the preparation and adherence to project budgets. Inspects and evaluates City facilities. Coordinates projects with other departments and divisions. Prepares specifications for maintenance and improvement projects, also oversees the administration of these projects. Evaluates subordinate personnel (functions and efficiency). Uses computer information systems, energy management systems, and building automation systems to assist in job performance. Serves on interview boards for new applicants, evaluates subordinates, and enforces personnel safety and departmental rules. Performs other job-related duties as assigned. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS Registered Architect licensed to practice in the State of Texas is required. Requires a Bachelor's Degree in Construction Management, Architecture, Engineering, Business and a minimum of three years of project management or construction management experience. 2-5 years of experience in architectural design or a similar role. Proficiency in design and drafting software (AutoCAD, Revit, Adobe Creative Suite, etc.) Strong understanding of architectural principles, materials, and construction methods. Excellent communication, creativity, and problem-solving skills. Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment. Valid Texas Driver's License required.
Requirements
- Master's degree in architecture or related field
- Knowledge of sustainable design practices (LEED or similar)
