Responsibilities

  • Perform the clinical assessment, evaluation, tests, treatments, therapies, medical management and other direct care for patients in the Pediatric Emergency Department.
  • Collaborate with and act as liaison among the nurse, patient, family, physician, and community resources for coordination of patient care.
  • Actively pursues required knowledge and skills for professional development. Identify and participate in quality assurance issues on the unit. Act as a resource for clinical skills to staff on or off the unit.

  • Performs other related work as needed.

Requirements

  • Education:
  • Minimum requirements include a college or university degree from an accredited school/college.
  • Work Experience:
  • Minimum requirements include knowledge and skills developed through a combination of education and a minimum of 2 years of relevant work experience in a related job discipline.
  • Certifications:
  • Current and/or eligible for State of Illinois licensure/registration required. Eligibility to be privileged and credentialed through the Medical Staff Office (MSO). - State of Illinois ---
  • Education :
  • An advanced degree from an accredited school/college of nursing or completion of an accredited Physician Assistant educational program accredited by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant, Inc.
  • Master's of Science in Nursing.
  • Background working in a Pediatric Level 1 Trauma ER.
  • Licenses and Certifications for Advanced Practice Provider:
  • Current and/or eligibility for State of Illinois RN and APN licensure/registration.
  • Must be certified as a Nurse Practitioner by the American Nurse's Credentialing Center or American Academy of Nurse Practitioners.
  • Once licensed, apply for a mid-level practitioner controlled substance license and DEA number.
  • Emergency Department experience as a Nurse Practitioner.
  • Licenses and Certifications for Physician Assistant:
  • Completion of an accredited Physician Assistant educational program.
  • Certification in ACLS and by the National Commission on the Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) and current and/or eligibility for State of Illinois licensure/registration.
  • Emergency Department experience.

Department BSD PED - Emergency Medicine About the Department As a Level 1 Trauma Center, the University of Chicago Medicine Comer Children's Hospital provides immediate, highly specialized pediatric emergency services, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The state-of-the-art pediatric emergency facility is the newest in Chicago. It features the latest diagnostic and treatment equipment to provide comprehensive emergency care. Through the emergency department, physicians and nurse practitioners with the Section of Pediatric Emergency Medicine care for acutely ill or injured children and teens. Our emergency department is the only Level 1 Pediatric Trauma Center on the South Side of Chicago and treats more than 31,000 patients each year, including hundreds with complex trauma injuries. Fully equipped air medical transport is also available for critically injured patients in surrounding areas. In addition to significant and far-reaching clinical impact in the region, Pediatric Emergency Medicine (PEM) is also an integral part of an academic institution dedicated to next-generation physician leaders, as well as scientific discoveries through basic, translational and clinical research. Job Summary Nocturnal role providing direct comprehensive health care to pediatric patients in the Comer Children's Hospital Pediatric Emergency Department. Works collaboratively within the Emergency Department care team using advanced clinical skills to assess and manage lower acuity patients in a Pediatric Fast Track treatment setting.
