POSITION OVERVIEW: The Controls Engineer's role is to provide engineering, design, and programming services for the engineering group. Responsibilities will include key involvement in all phases of development, design, execution, and field support of the controls designs of all industrial and renewable solutions products/projects. The Controls Engineer will also play a key role in developing Controls design standards and practices for all industrial related products & projects. KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: Interpret and work from electrical drawings including one-line diagrams, network layouts, and control panel schematics Support controls system design, including panel layouts, I/O design, and circuit development Develop and modify PLC and HMI programs for assigned projects Create and Review Bills of Materials (BOMs) Work with design team to provide complete manufacturing drawings. Work with engineering and project teams to execute controls scope for projects Support field activities including commissioning, startup, and troubleshooting Serve as primary customer contact, respond to internal and customer technical inquiries related to controls systems Participate in project meetings as needed (kickoff, design reviews, etc.) Assist in documenting sequences of operation and system functionality Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to PLCs, HMIs, VFDs, and communication networks Support projects in the field as required, including sitework if necessary. Other responsibilities as assigned by TAS. JOB SKILLS: Highly motivated, self-starter with a strong working knowledge of controls and automation systems. Technical aptitude and the ability to read, support development of, and interpret P&ID's and Control loops Strong ability to read and interpret: -Electrical diagrams -Electronic datasheets -Control panel schematics -Network/communication layouts Hands-on experience with: -PLC programming (Rockwell/Allen-Bradley preferred) -HMI development (PanelView, Wonderware, Siemens, or similar) -Basic circuit design and panel integration Familiarity with industrial communication protocols: -Modbus (TCP/IP, RTU) Experience with VFDs and motor control systems Familiar with Instrumentation and different process inputs/voltages Basic AutoCAD experience and ability to review drawings Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills Good communication skills and ability to work in a team environment EDUCATION & TRAINING: Bachelor's degree in Electrical and/or Controls Engineering from an accredited four-year program A substitution of military leadership and/or technical work experience may be considered in lieu of a technical degree. Demonstrated proficiency in technical writing and comprehensive documentation. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Minimum 2 years as a Controls/Automation Engineer for an Equipment Packager or a Systems Integrator. Must be able to design, configure, program, install & commission PLC, HMI and I&E equipment. PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS: Field commissioning/startup experience. Data Center design experience is a plus. Industrial HVAC, energy service contracting or central chilled water plant experience. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT: Position is at least 80% to 95% at a desk working with computer. Ability to exert up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Performs other physical activities including use of fingers, sitting, stooping, bending, crouching, talking, hearing, and performing repetitive motions. Visual acuity requirements include color, depth perception and field of vision necessary to prepare and analyze data and figures, operate a computer terminal, and conduct extensive reading.
