Field Unit Local Hiring Authority This position is being filled under the Field Unit Local Hiring Authority. Eligibility is limited to applicants who reside within the defined local commuting area at the time of application. For this announcement, the local commuting area is the area from which individuals can reasonably commute to the duty station under normal conditions. The defined vicinity for this position is: 75 miles within Jackson, Mississippi. Residency will be verified during the hiring process. Applicants must provide proof of residency within the defined vicinity (e.g. mortgage or property deed, lease/rental agreement, utility bill, insurance policy, etc.). Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience. To qualify for this position, you must have sufficient knowledge and ability in the following job-related factors: Ability To Do The Work Of The Position Without More Than Normal Supervision (SCREEN OUT) SCREEN OUT: Maintaining and/or preserving historic properties. Working under the direction of others to help with the preservation, stabilization, restoration, and maintenance of historic structures. Ability to perform tasks on the following skills: plastering, roofing, painting, carpentry, sandblasting, motor vehicle operating, and/or preservation servicing. Related skills may include surface preparation, rough and finish carpentry, cleaning, cement mixing, repairs to concrete surfaces and structures, and /or painting work. Experience working with others with at least some or all of the following: repainting walls, repairing buildings, roads, grounds, and related facilities, stabilizing and/or repairing wood, composite, and wood substitute items, restoring building elements such as frame structures, decking, partitions, shelving, doors, forms, siding, using a combination of modern and historic techniques and materials which may no longer be commercially available. Have utilized hand and power tools which include: hammers, saws, wrenches, pliers, screwdrivers, drills, tape measures, squares, chisels, drawknives, calipers, and traditional carpentry tools.
