CLASSIFICATION TITLE: Protective Service Officer (Part-time) SALARY: $20.85 - $20.85 DEPARTMENT: Protective Services Opening Date: 06/15/2026 Closing Date: 06/30/2026 12:00 a.m. We are seeking a part-time Protective Service Officer . This position offers an alternating bi-weekly schedule of 5 working days on, 5 working days off. We're looking for someone with experience in security or public safety to help screen individuals and ensure the smooth, safe operation of our County facilities. FLSA STATUS: Non-exempt - overtime pursuant to Human Resources and Labor Relations Policy EMPLOYMENT RELATIONSHIP: Just cause subject to probationary period CURRENT HOURS AND STARTING TIME : This position follows a recurring two-week schedule. The employee will work up to 25 hours during the first week, scheduled across Thursday, Friday, Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. The following week (Thursday through Wednesday) will be scheduled off. This alternating biweekly schedule will continue on a regular basis. The starting time for this position could be as early as 6:00 a.m. and the end time could be as late as 9:00 p.m., depending on assigned location. GENERAL SUMMARY: Under direction, screens individuals entering a County operated facility for any weapons and/or forbidden items. Greets individuals desiring to enter a County operated facility and informs them that they must be screened prior to entry. Operates various electronic control and scanning devices in order to screen for weapons and/or other forbidden items. Observes assigned areas to detect and prevent unauthorized activities. Completes various forms and/or documents. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Screens individuals entering a County operated facility for any weapons or other forbidden items. Greets individuals desiring to enter a County operated facility and informs them that they must be screened prior to entry. Operates various electronic control and scanning devices in order to screen for weapons and/or other forbidden items. Observes assigned areas to detect and prevent unauthorized or inappropriate activities. Prevents inappropriate activities and/or behavior and intervenes when inappropriate activities and/or behavior are observed. De-escalates unruly and/or disruptive behavior. Completes various reports and/or documents. If possessing a valid Concealed Pistol License (CPL): participates in and successfully completes required firearms training as designated by the Sheriff, as well as, meets and maintains firearms qualification and standards in order to carry a weapon. Performs related duties as assigned.
