About the role

Under the direction of the Solid Waste Service Coordinator the Route Supervisor oversees 13 to 20 employees engaged in solid waste refuse collection. This role involves extensive use of software and programs for scheduling, tracking, and reporting purposes. ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES Perform general supervisory tasks of assigned personnel and collection routes, including schedules, assignments, and solid waste collection activities using advanced software tools. Manage solid waste account charges of residential customers, including adding, deleting, and prorating accounts. Set, remove, or move residential containers and coordinate with Public Works for new addresses on routes or discontinued solid waste services. Compile daily reports, take attendance, report absences, and fill out all types of forms used in the collection of solid waste and refuse. Maintain routes for addresses and pickup schedules for solid waste containers. Prepare reports, memos, and letters concerning solid waste service. Maintain good contact with the department head and provide feedback on operations through digital communication platforms. Continuously monitor crew operations via tracking software; ensure cleanliness of alleys and trash collection areas. Use software to track and report the operation, cleanliness, service maintenance, and repair needs of route equipment and containers. Investigate complaints received from the public and employees using digital systems; instruct crews and follow up as needed. Encourage compliance with solid waste regulations and file formal complaints digitally if necessary. Investigate and document incidents, accidents, and property damage. Conduct and document safety instructional meetings with personnel using digital tools. Must be able to be on call for 24 - hour emergency calls out and fill in for other supervisors as assigned. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS A high school diploma or its equivalent (GED) and two (2) years of experience in personnel supervision, computer operation, data entry, bookkeeping or related field is required. Must have a valid Texas Commercial Driver's License (CDL). KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES Proficient in the use of light, medium, and medium-large solid waste collection equipment, and trucks. Strong skills in composing reports and correspondence; excellent telephone and digital communication etiquette. Capable of scheduling, assigning, and overseeing Equipment Operators and Laborers using digital tools. Good physical condition with the ability to drive in all types of city traffic and weather conditions. Comfortable using various software applications for scheduling, tracking, and reporting. 24 - hour emergency callout availability; ability to integrate with other levels of personnel.
