About the role
Anduril is seeking a Mass Properties Engineer to join the Omen Team at our Costa Mesa HQ. Omen is Anduril's hover-to-cruise autonomous air vehicle (AAV) that packs the endurance, payload, and mission flexibility of much larger airplanes into a novel runway-independent Group 3 platform. Omen can operate from ship decks, beaches, or remote island clearings, providing true runway independence and freedom of maneuver across defense and civilian domains. Omen is the first tail-sitter aircraft with a mass-production contract, with an order of 50 systems representing a decisive investment that anchors production and accelerates the development of future systems. You will work on new aircraft development in a lean, high-ownership culture where you directly shape the product and operate at a velocity to fly new designs within months, not years In this role, you will develop, track and manage the mass properties for air vehicles to meet design and performance criteria. You will use an understanding of multidisciplinary engineering principles to translate configuration concepts and design requirements into accurate mass estimates, center of gravity (CG) data, and inertias. This includes developing and maintaining detailed weight statements, performing mass distribution analyses, and assessing the impact of design changes on overall vehicle mass characteristics.
Responsibilities
- Contribute to the development of mass properties (weight, center of gravity (CG), & inertia) data for new air vehicle development.
- Develop, track, and manage mass properties data throughout air vehicle design phases
- Participate in defining mass properties related design requirements
- Provide vehicle and subsystem configuration trade study guidance
- Support vehicle and subsystem level weight and balance control efforts
- Estimate, calculate, measure, and verify weight, balance, and inertia of components, assemblies, and completed vehicles or systems
- Participate in developing and maintaining mass properties accounting systems
- Generate mass properties reports
- Participate in developing and implementing new processes and tools
Requirements
- High-ownership and a bias toward action - if you see a problem, you want to fix it.
- Bachelor's degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineer, Robotics, Physics, or related technical discipline.
- 5+ years of experience in aircraft mass properties or related aerospace design roles.
- Strong understanding of aerospace principles, vehicle dynamics, and system integration.
- Proven track record leading aircraft mass properties efforts from early development through flight test and production
- Experience with aircraft mass properties tools
- Experience with Formula SAE, Baja SAE, Design Build Fly, or similar competitive engineering programs demonstrating hands-on vehicle integration experience
- US Salary Range
- $146,000 - $194,000 USD
