Position Description The McGill University Department of Medicine, Division of Rheumatology in the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences invites applications for a full-time Contract Academic Staff position as a Clinician-Teacher at the rank Assistant Professor (clinical) based at St. Mary's Hospital Centre. This will be a Contract Academic Staff position and does not confer eligibility for tenure. The Department of Medicine is a recognized leader in academic medicine. St. Mary's Hospital Center is one of McGill's major teaching hospitals affiliated with the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences at Canada's internationally renowned McGill University , located in the vibrant and multicultural city of Montreal, in the province of Quebec. It is a community hospital with an important teaching mandate for trainees in multiple disciplines. Job Duties The successful candidate will be appointed to clinical practice in the Department of Medicine, Division of Rheumatology at St. Mary's Hospital Centre. Our career path definitions specify typical ranges of time allotted to clinical work, teaching (clinical and didactic), research and administration. As a Clinician-Teacher, the successful candidate's major non-clinical focus will be on teaching the next generation of physicians, including both didactic and clinical teaching. Clinical responsibilities will include Rheumatology consult service and a weekly outpatient clinic at the Lakeshore General Hospital. The successful candidate will assume a leadership role in overseeing teaching at both the hospital and Centre intégré de santé et de services sociaux (CIUSSS) levels. They will be expected to play an active role in the organization, coordination, and ongoing enhancement of the quality of teaching for medical students and postgraduate medical trainees from Internal Medicine, General Internal Medicine, and Family Medicine programs. The candidate will have opportunities to further develop expertise in medical education across multiple specialties and to strengthen educational collaborations with other McGill-affiliated institutions. In addition, the selected candidate will be expected to foster and promote clinical innovation within the Division of Rheumatology and to contribute to clinical research and quality improvement initiatives aimed at advancing medical practice at St. Mary's Hospital Centre. The successful candidate will also be expected to be actively involved in all aspects of McGill's academic mission (i.e. research, teaching, supervision of graduate students and residents, and involvement in academic and administrative committees). McGill faculty members are expected to contribute to service activities within their units, the University and the wider scholarly community. A demonstrated commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion is also expected. Qualifications and Education requirements Candidates must: Hold an MD degree and be eligible for licensure in the province of Québec; Have completed specialty training in General Internal Medicine and subspecialty training in Rheumatology; Be certified by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (or equivalent) ; Be certified by the Collège des médecins du Québec ; Have completed, or be currently enrolled in, at least one additional year of clinical and/or research training, preferably in Medical Education, with a demonstrated commitment to pursuing an academic career focused on teaching; Demonstrate strong interpersonal and leadership skills; Demonstrate proficiency in English and French, or a commitment to acquiring the language skills necessary to practice medicine in Québec; candidates must be able to interact effectively in both languages with patients, families, and health‑care professionals.
