Laundry Assistant

Responsibilities

• Laundry Operations
• Collect soiled clothing and linen from wards daily for washing.
• Operate washing and drying machines according to established schedules.
• Sort and fold clean laundry, including residents' pyjamas, pillowcases, towels, bedsheets, and blankets.
• Linen Distribution and Inventory
• Count and organize clean laundry by ward before distribution.
• Load clean linen and clothing onto trolleys for delivery to designated wards.
• Ensure accurate returns and collection cycles.
• Basic Garment Repairs
• Mend loose buttons and small tears in residents' clothing or linen when needed.
• Report heavily damaged items to supervisor for replacement.
• Hygiene and Housekeeping
• Maintain cleanliness and tidiness of the laundry room.
• Ensure that all machines and surfaces are clean and in good working order.
• Follow infection control and hygiene protocols in handling residents' laundry.
• Basement Sweeping (Ad-hoc Duty)
• Sweep and tidy the basement carpark area surrounding the laundry department daily.
• Other Ad-hoc Duties
• Support other duties as assigned by the Home, including during festive events or emergencies requiring additional housekeeping or logistic support.

Job Summary: The Laundry Assistant is responsible for the daily cleaning, drying, and distribution of residents' clothing and linen to ensure a hygienic and comfortable environment within the nursing home. This includes operating laundry equipment, handling large volumes of linen, minor mending tasks, and maintaining cleanliness within the laundry area. The Laundry Assistant plays a critical support role in maintaining the dignity and comfort of elderly residents by ensuring clean, well-cared-for garments and bedding.
