Professional Member of Council Professional Members of Council Closing Date : 20 July 2026 Professional Member Non-Executive Director (Member of Council) Council, together with its delegated bodies, is responsible for the strategic direction, governance, and oversight of The Welding Institute group of companies. Day to day operations is managed by the Chief Executive Officer and Executive Board. All eligible Professional Members of The Welding Institute are invited to apply for a position on Council. To be eligible, you must be a Professional Member of The Welding Institute, applications for this role must be made up from a CV & a Covering Letter. The TWI Group is a leading global, membership based, independent research and technology organisation specialising in materials, joining, and structural integrity technologies. Our purpose is to support industry by providing independent technical advice and by developing the next generation of experts to address future challenges. As a non-profit distributing organisation, all surplus is reinvested into research, people, facilities, and equipment to further enhance the value delivered to our members. Council, comprising Non-Executive Directors, plays a key role in supporting effective governance through collaboration with the Chief Executive and Executive Board, ensuring robust oversight and informed decision making across the organisation. We are seeking to appoint new Professional Member Non-Executive Directors to join Council and contribute to its boards and committees in line with their skills and experience, with at least one Member of Professional Board to become a Council Member. Candidates will ideally have senior management or board level experience, a strong understanding of corporate governance, and the ability to provide constructive challenge and scrutiny of organisational performance. This is a non-remunerated role requiring a time commitment of up to eight days per annum. Reasonable expenses will be reimbursed for attendance at meetings. Travel : Council-related activities typically require around 8 days of engagement per year, which may include attending meetings in Cambridge. While these meetings can be joined remotely, we encourage in-person attendance where possible to support collaboration. Please note that the overall time commitment may vary depending on individual involvement in Council responsibilities beyond formal meetings.
