About the role
Fitzwilliam College invites applications for a Research Assistant position in public policy. This is an exciting opportunity to join the Fitzwilliam College community, and to work on projects that are integral to the research agenda of the new Bennett School of Public Policy (BSPP) which is led by Professor Michael Kenny, who is also a Professorial Fellow at Fitzwilliam College. The Research Assistant will undertake a range of research tasks under the supervision of Professor Kenny. They will enjoy the benefits of engagement at a senior level in a lively and supporting College environment (most likely through election to a Bye-Fellow) while also being affiliated to the Bennett School's community of academics and policy researchers. The post-holder will undertake a range of research tasks in support of the Departments' programmes of research on some of the most pressing and important challenges affecting the governance and democratic health of the UK. They will, more specifically, work on projects on one or more of the following themes: the political and policy dimensions of devolved governance across the UK; the development of England's model of devolution; inter-governmental relations; falling political trust; and regional policy and place-based policymaking. There may well be an additional opportunity to contribute to the teaching of the Human, Social and Political Sciences tripos at Fitzwilliam. The successful candidate should have a good first degree in one of the Social Sciences or another cognate discipline, an excellent understanding of British politics and policy, and experience of qualitative research methods. They should be flexible and adaptable and may be called upon to support the delivery of events at Fitzwilliam or the Bennett School.
