As we rapidly expand our charging network across Europe, the opportunity to attract and serve more EV drivers is growing fast. To accelerate this growth, we are looking for an Engineering Manager to help our engineering teams at the heart of our organisation. Together with 400+ colleagues from over 45 nationalities, spread across 10 countries, we drive change in the energy transition. What sets us apart is our focus on reliability, sustainability and clean energy. We have been awarded "Best Charging Network" in the UK, France, Switzerland and the Netherlands, further establishing Fastned as a leading player in the field. The Role As a Engineering Manager at Fastned, you will support and guide two cross-functional squads: The Fastned App: Shaping the primary interface between our brand and thousands of EV drivers. Payments & Revenue: Creating frictionless transactions and reliable systems in a a complex, multi-currency European market You will be key support and mentor for these teams. Your goal is to foster the clarity and trust they need to do their best work, while ensuring every individual has a dedicated path for professional development. This is primarily a people-focused leadership role; your greatest impact comes from building an inclusive environment where engineers feel a deep sense of belonging and confidence in their direction. Beyond your squads, you will contribute to the growth of our entire engineering culture. You'll collaborate with the Head of Engineering and fellow managers to evolve our hiring practices, integrate new technologies thoughtfully, and ensure our systems remain secure as we scale. What you'll do People Leadership & Coaching Coach engineers at all levels, from juniors finding their footing to seniors navigating complex architectural and career decisions. Build individual development plans and foster a culture where meaningful feedback is a natural team rhythm, not an annual event. Create an environment where people feel safe to experiment, raise concerns, and learn from failure. Conduct performance evaluations with care and clarity, proactively addressing underperformance while championing top talent. Actively build a diverse team culture where every member feels they belong and can thrive. Ways of Working Continuously evolve how your squads plan and execute (Scrum, Kanban, or hybrid), ensuring the framework fits the team's specific context. Shield your teams from "noise" and remove impediments, allowing engineers to sustain deep focus on high-quality delivery. Drive a culture of excellence across code quality, observability, incident response, and sustainable delivery pace. Use metrics (Cycle Time, Team Health, and Reliability Indicators)to spot bottlenecks early and drive continuous improvement. Engineering-Wide Initiatives You will co-own initiatives that strengthen the entire engineering organization, such as: Hiring & Onboarding: Help design and run a fair, structured, and candidate-friendly hiring process; actively source diverse talent and raise the bar over time. AI Adoption: Championing the responsible use of AI-assisted tools (code generation, automated testing) to boost developer effectiveness. Security-First Mindset: Cultivating a culture where security is integrated into the design phase, not added as an afterthought. Cross-Team Bridges: Identifying dependencies between Product, Data, and Platform teams to ensure seamless collaboration. About you Must-haves: At least 5 years of experience as a Software Engineer, complemented by 2-3 years in a formal management role with direct people responsibility. A track record of "leveling up" engineers; you can name people who grew significantly under your mentorship. Deep experience overhauling "ways of working" and the ability to explain the measurable impact of those changes. A strong communicator who can frame technical trade-offs for business stakeholders and business strategy for engineers. You enjoy building alignment across Product, Design, and Data functions. Fluency in English and cultural awareness to navigate various European markets. Additional European languages are considered a plus. Nice-to-haves: A background in Java/Kotlin , cloud infrastructure, or modern mobile development. A personal point of view on how to integrate AI tools into the developer workflow responsibly. Experience in a high-growth, product-led company where you've balanced the tension between speed and sustainability. A genuine passion for the energy transition and the freedom of electric mobility. Join us in building a better future! We work hard to change the world, but we don't forget to recognise & celebrate our successes, big and small. We focus on work-life balance, provide genuine work flexibility, and have family-friendly policies in place. Electric mobility is new territory for you? Don't worry!
