About the role

The Office of Employee Health & Wellness, Workers' Compensation, is responsible for the State's self-insured workers' compensation program. Through collaborative partnerships and initiatives, we focus on preventing workplace injuries and ensuring that injured State of Maine employees receive essential services, including medical care and compensation. This role is responsible for managing a small caseload of workers' compensation claims for State of Maine employees. Additionally, the position supports the daily management of claims by collecting information from various internal and external sources. Work is carried out with limited supervision.

Responsibilities

  • Conducts supervisory workers' compensation training for new supervisors.
  • Prepares files for mediations and hearings.
  • Performs provider bill and claim audits.
  • Responds to requests from the State of Maine's legal teams and other partners.
  • Prepares bills for potential agreements or decrees.
  • Updates, tracks and maintains the subrogation spreadsheet.
  • Tracks and maintains a legal spreadsheet for claims.
  • Schedules and prepares medical packages for evaluations.
  • Sends files to attorneys/advocates.
  • Prepares medical/bill indices.
  • Compiles quarterly, monthly, and yearly departmental reports.

Requirements

  • A combination of related post-secondary education, training, or experience demonstrating knowledge and understanding of Workers' Compensation claims management functions and processes.
  • Preference will be given to applicants with:
  • Experience in workers' compensation claims management and proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Teams, and Outlook.
