About the role

In this position you will work as a member of the Mount Weather Emergency Operations Center (MWEOC), Emergency Services Division, Police Branch. MWEOC is located in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia, approximately 60 miles west of Washington, DC. To qualify for this position at the GS-06 level, you must possess one full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-05 level in the Federal government, which has equipped you with the skills needed to successfully perform the duties of the position. Experience may be obtained in the federal government, a state or local government, or private sector, and must demonstrate the following: Patrolling on foot or by vehicle on an installation or facility to identify suspicious activity and potential threats OR, Performing duties to protect personnel, property, or other resources OR, Standing a fixed post and controlling personnel access by monitoring the identification of individuals entering a facility or building OR, Operating a variety of communications and security equipment, such as computers, multi-frequency radios, multi-line telephone systems, and other related peripherals to support both routine and emergency operations OR, Writing and submitting reports on activities or incident involving violations of appropriate laws or regulations. Requirements for this position: Participate in tests and exercises during non-duty work hours. Wear a uniform. Wear various Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to include respirators, masks, self-contained breathing apparatus, & armored vests. Obtain & retain authority under Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Delegation 12000, Delegation for Security Operations within the Department of Homeland Security by completing Federal Law Enforcement Training Center's (FLETC) Uniform Police Training Program or equivalent FLETC basic police training program within 1 year of appointment. Work shifts including weekends and holidays, and emergency overtime when necessary. Subject to recall 24/7. Required to work above and below ground. Subject to mandatory random drug testing. Meet requirements of 18 U.S.C. § 922(g)(9), known as the "Lautenberg Agreement" which outlines carrying of firearms. Must be able to continue to perform the duties of this position in the event of a crisis until relieved by proper authority. Subject to supervisory inspection and approval of attire, as an officer representing MWPD, for professional and competent image to include a clean, neatly pressed uniform or attire for tidy appearance in accordance to established dress code. Pass a pre-employment and yearly physical exam & maintain a specified medical profile. Drive a vehicle & maintain a valid state driver's license. (Please do not upload a photocopy of your license. Carry firearms or other weapons authorized for their specific jurisdiction & must qualify bi-annually with authorized weapons and demonstrate skill and proficiency in their uses.
