The District Engineer will serve as NDOT's representative and provide leadership in linking the development and implementation of district policies, plans, strategic goals and objectives to the Department's vision and mission. The District Engineer will also represent the NDOT to the public, governmental entities and officials, contractors, consultants, developers, railroads, public transportation, utilities, media, and other groups and organizations. The District Engineer must be committed to the strategic goals and processes of the Department, and to its values of integrity, safety, and quality. Pay range for this position is $59.551 - $89.324. The pay rate is commensurate with education and/or experience within fiscal constraints. Job Duties : Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Plan, assign, and direct the work activity of assigned management and supervisory staff to attain work goals and to ensure consistent application of administrative policies, procedures, contracts, and standards. Optimize the allocation of resources using asset management and the performance of the transportation system. Prepare the annual construction program and the maintenance plan for Nebraska's Highway and Interstate System in the District 2 region. Develop and administer the District 2 budget. Lead partnering efforts with consultants, contractors, cities, counties, agencies, and private citizens . Manage and coordinate the District's public relations efforts with the media, other government agencies, a concentrated media center, the public, and special interest groups and will also attend public forums representing the Nebraska Department of Transportation to communicate the agency's goals and objectives and to seek public input. Administer agency and state personnel policies and rules and coordinate the administration of the labor union contract in District 2. Serve as a liaison with state senators, mayors, and city councils. Lead the District's workforce development program. Remain knowledgeable of Intelligent Transportation System applications, operations, and incident management. Perform other duties as assigned . Requirements / Qualifications: Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline and two years of experience performing highly advanced, progressively responsible transportation engineering which includes leading and managing a complex engineering operation with responsibility for public relations, budgeting, and management of human resources. Must possess a Professional Engineer (P.E.) license at the time of application and be licensed by the Nebraska Board of Engineers and Architects at time of employment or be able to obtain such license within 90 days of employment.
