Advertised Position Title: Asst Coach Women's Softball Job Description: The Assistant Softball Coach will assist the head coach In coordinating all phases of a competitive NJCAA Division Ill Softball program. Including but not limited to coaching, recruiting, training, budget management, travel management, scheduling, rules and eligibility compliance, administrative duties, academic monitoring and program fundraising. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Thorough knowledge of all athletics policies approved by the NJCAA, OCCAC and Owens Community College. Understand FERPA and the proper administrative line of command and refer all student and parent requests or grievances through proper channels. Knowledge and background in softball. Teach sports techniques, playing rules, strategies and playing tactics. Condition athletes appropriately for activities requiring endurance strength and agility. Conduct practices and contests safely, supervising locker rooms and buses. Instruct team members about rules and changes in the rules and teach fundamentals of the sport. Help in planning and implementation of both in-season and out-of-season conditioning and weight programs. Works closely with the Athletic Director notifying him/her of potential problems/awards, etc. Essential Functions: Has knowledge and background in the sport of softball. Maintains discipline and works to increase morale and cooperation within the collegiate sports program. Teaches sports techniques, playing rules, strategies and playing tactics. Supervises and conducts practices and contests safely, supervising locker rooms and buses. Assists the head coach in carrying out his or her responsibilities. Other Characteristics: Accountable for personal actions on and off campus properties. Arrives early enough before practices, contests, and meetings to adequately prepare and remain long enough afterward to help players with problems or to become involved in staff discussions. Never critizes, or admonishes or argues with other coaching staff or any staff member within ears or eyes of players, parents, or fans. Stives to improve skills by attending clinics. Minimum Education/Experience: High School Diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.) High School/Club or equivalent coaching experience preferred. Collegiate coaching experience or collegiate playing experience preferred.
