Job Description Purpose: The Communications Specialist IV, under limited supervision, plays a key role in the strategic planning, development, and execution of high-level communications initiatives. This position involves advanced writing, editing, designing, and overseeing the production of a wide range of communications materials.

Responsibilities

  • Research, write, and edit feature stories, news articles, and profiles highlighting faculty achievements, student success, research initiatives, and departmental impact.
  • Promote departmental special events and programs.
  • Manage the department's social media presence.
  • Coordinate the production of print material and electronic communications to support the goals of the department through collaboration with Engineering Communications.
  • Serve as a communications consultant for faculty, staff, and departmental leadership by recommending effective communication strategies and coordinating appropriate resources.
  • Utilize a project management tracking system for all project requests.
  • Manage and maintain the department website, including content updates, navigation improvements, accessibility compliance, and coordination with Engineering Communications and web support teams.
  • Provide front-facing customer support on communications-related needs and collaborate with support teams in Engineering Communications to fulfill those requests.
  • Develop and execute strategic communications plans that support departmental priorities, student recruitment, faculty recognition, research visibility, rankings initiatives, and stakeholder engagement.
  • Coordinate the creation of visual enhancements to our buildings.
  • Manage multiple communications projects simultaneously, prioritizing requests and coordinating timelines with internal stakeholders and Engineering Communications.
  • Provide metrics on the results of the department's communications initiatives.
  • Take photos and videos at department events, research labs and elsewhere as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.
