Examples of specialized experience includes Measuring meteorological phenomena with scientific equipment and instrumentation; observing and recording atmospheric characteristics, i.e., temperature, air movement, visibility, pressure, air density, cloud types; decoding, plotting, and systematically recording data related to the physical characteristics of the atmosphere, i.e., charts, diagrams, cross sections; collecting, analyzing, interpreting, adjusting, and verifying atmospheric and other meteorological data to confirm and improve accuracy and efficacy; as well as weather observing, forecasting, communications, determining how local conditions and reports and observations from various sources affect weather forecasts, extend of change, and whether to take action to protect life and property. OR EDUCATION: Must have a master's degree OR two (2) full years of graduate education directly related to duties of the position such as meteorology or physical science (NOTE: YOU MUST SUBMIT COPIES OF YOUR TRANSCRIPTS) OR COMBINATION OF EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements are at least 100%. (NOTE: YOU MUST SUBMIT COPIES OF YOUR TRANSCRIPTS) FEDERAL TIME-IN-GRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT FOR GENERAL SCHEDULE (GS) POSITIONS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in-grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-08 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-09 level. TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks. NOTE: Applicants applying as VEOA candidates who are current GS civil service employees or are prior GS civil service employees within the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: Knowledge of the principles, procedures, requirements, and work techniques of the full range of advanced operations, instrumentation, and practices in the areas of weather forecasting, observations, weather support procedures, communications, and use of meteorological equipment.
