Description of Work Reporting to the Maintenance/Construction Supervisor III, this position handles the design and upkeep of lawns, landscaping, and grounds surrounding a medium custody level correctional institution. Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following: - Completing work assignments received from MMS work order system and the Maintenance/Construction Supervisor. - Mowing, edging, removing leaves, trash, and snow, and trimming trees and shrubs as required. - Applying pesticides and selecting plants and trees which are adaptable to the local climate. - Sketching landscape plans for undeveloped areas, locating plants, trees, sidewalks, roads, etc. - Preparing requisitions for supplies, materials, and equipment needed for grounds department and providing cost estimates for expenditures to maintain the grounds and equipment. - Ensuring grounds equipment has up-to-date service records and is cleaned regularly. - Making minor mechanical repairs to equipment such as tractors, mowers, disks, and rakes - Supervising the work of skilled, semi-skilled, and unskilled labor (including offenders) and ensuring they are adhering to OSHA guidelines for safety. About the Division of Institutions : The Division of Institutions manages the daily operations of all state-operated prison facilities across North Carolina. Facilities are categorized by custody levels (minimum, medium, close) and house individuals serving sentences for felony convictions. The division provides safety, security, and rehabilitative services through trained custody staff, program facilitators, and administrative personnel. About Harnett Correctional Institution: Harnett Correctional Institution is located in Lillington, North Carolina and houses up to 988 male offenders in a medium custody facility.
