Grade Level (for internal use): 09 The Role: Associate Editor, Asia Pacific Shipping & Freight The Team: The Asia Shipping and Freight team consists of tanker and dry bulk freight editors. The uniqueness of this team lies in tracking a very exciting and fast-moving shipping market. The freight assessments produced by the team are a key component of the commodity product pricing markets. The tanker and dry bulk price assessments produced by the team is valued by the market, which uses them in physical and derivative freight trading. The freight team members are a bunch of passionate shipping market watchers who have their fingers on the pulse of the global seaborne trade. The Impact: The candidate would be responsible for assessing tanker freight rates/indexes, which are used by market participants in negotiating, concluding, and signing up their physical freight and freight derivative swaps contracts. This is a critical role where the editor would be responsible for the custody of key LNG, dirty, and clean tanker freight assessments.

Responsibilities

  • Collecting tanker freight market information and producing freight assessments/indexes
  • Reports/writing daily news, commentary and analysis/and feature stories
  • Develops, expands, and maintains sources and contacts relevant to the market area of coverage
  • Focus on quality and accuracy of assessments, commentary, editorial practices and documentation

Requirements

  • Well-rounded communication skills with good listening techniques, clear, concise writing style; and good verbal skills.
  • The ability to communicate with a wide range of groups and personalities. Able to show good judgment and the ability to express, both positive and negative comments.
  • Support changes to methodology/approach
  • Displays good numeracy skills including ability to conceptualize proportional relationships as well as a basic understanding of how to apply basic math functions in Microsoft Excel. A basic understanding of economics principles is also preferred.
  • Understanding of commodity markets and its dynamics
  • Possessing public speaking skills
  • Shipping/freight market experience, or market reporting experience, a bonus
