Description of Work Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences This position is assigned to Bertie Correctional Institution located in Windsor, NC. Reporting to the Correctional Captain III, this position is responsible for the supervision of subordinate staff at a multi-level male correctional facility. Other responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to the following: 1. Conducting shift line-up, making shift assignments and inspecting all personnel to determine if they are physically and mentally capable of assuming as assigned post. 2. Completing reviews and maintaining employee time reports, duty rosters, leave schedules, performance evaluations and administrative forms. 3. Ensuring that all assigned equipment is operational, providing daily inspection of offenders living areas, medical, kitchen areas and the facility to identify possible safety hazards and to ensuring the operation is running smoothly. 4. Identifying training needs and coordinating delivery of training to subordinate staff. 5. Conducting investigations, searching of staff, visitors and offenders for contraband and responding to emergency situations as needed. 6. Serving as Officer-In-Charge (OIC) of the facility when his/her rotation is working in the absence of the Correctional Captain Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences: Salary Grade Range: $45,431.00 - $79,504.00 Candidates now meet the minimum qualifications of a position if they meet the minimum education and experience listed on the vacancy announcement. The Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)/ Management Preferences are not required. Applicants who possess the following skills are preferred: Documented experience with report writing. About The Division of Institutions: The Division of Institutions manages the daily operations of all state-operated prison facilities across North Carolina. Facilities are categorized by custody levels (minimum, medium, close) and house individuals serving sentences for felony convictions. The division provides safety, security, and rehabilitative services through trained custody staff, program facilitators, and administrative personnel.
