About the role
Communications Associate | $63k-68k annual salary; paid hourly, overtime eligible. David Zwirner seeks a full-time Communications Associate to join its New York Communications team. The Communications Associate will run day-to-day operations of the press and communications department at a moment when the boundaries between editorial, social, and institutional storytelling are dissolving. Responsibilities
- Monitor (via Google alerts and Meltwater), clip, and maintain the press archive across print, digital, newsletters, and emerging platforms, including Substack, podcasts, and creator-driven media alongside legacy outlets.
- Actively maintain, research, and expand the gallery's media contact database, with a focus on independent writers and critics who are building audiences outside traditional mastheads.
- Track the media landscape; identify new publications, platforms, and voices relevant to contemporary art and culture.
- Oversee the press@ inbox and route requests appropriately.
- Manage the gallery's online press room in coordination with the web team, keeping it current and useful as a journalist-facing resource.
- Prepare internal and external media reports for gallery leadership, artists, and estates.
- Organize press previews, including RSVPs, scheduling, and logistics.
- Support the Communications team on exhibition campaigns across all channels.
- Coordinate mailings of David Zwirner Books to the appropriate media contacts.
- Collaborate across the global communications team to help streamline processes.
- Oversee the communication department intern.
- Ad hoc projects as needed.
- What we would like you to have:
- Bachelor's degree in art history, communications, journalism, or a related field.
- 3 - 4 years of experience in communications, public relations, or a closely related role, preferably at a gallery, auction house, or PR firm.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills; strong editing ability.
- Genuine fluency and understanding of the current media landscape.
- Comfortable using tools for research, reporting, and workflow efficiency, while maintaining editorial judgment.
- Able to manage time independently, prioritize across competing deadlines, and stay organized in a fast-moving department.
- Proactive, collaborative, and positive - equally at ease working autonomously and as part of a close-knit team.
