About the role
Chevron ENGINE has an exciting opportunity for a Topsides Electrical Engineer to join the Discipline Engineering team. Reporting to the Automation Systems And Instrumentation Lead, this role will be based in Chevron's office in Bengaluru. The Topsides Electrical Engineer is part of the Project Design Engineering organization within the Chevron ENGINE center. This role is responsible for the engineering, design, and execution of topsides electrical power systems and equipment for offshore facilities. This role ensures that electrical designs are safe, reliable, compliant with applicable codes and standards, and fully integrated with overall facility and project requirements. The position interfaces closely with Process, Mechanical, Instrumentation, Control Systems, and Operations teams to support project delivery across all phases, including early concept development, FEED, detailed design, fabrication, installation, commissioning, and startup. Chevron ENGINE supports global operations, and work hours are aligned to business needs. Standard working hours are 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM or 1:30 PM to 10:30 PM, Monday to Friday. These may evolve based on operational or business requirements.
Responsibilities
- Develop and deliver electrical power system designs for offshore topsides facilities, including generation, distribution, protection, and control systems.
- Provide technical oversight and assurance for electrical studies, calculations, specifications, and design deliverables.
- Coordinate electrical interfaces with other engineering disciplines to ensure fully integrated and constructible designs.
- Support contractor engineering reviews, vendor document reviews, and technical bid evaluations.
- Ensure compliance with company standards, industry codes, regulatory
- requirements, and project specifications.
- Support fabrication, installation, commissioning, and startup activities, including site support as required.
- Identify and manage technical risks, deviations, and change management related to electrical scope.
- Provide technical input to project execution plans, schedules, and cost estimates.
- Support operational readiness and handover to operations, including as-built documentation and lessons learned.
- Required Qualification:
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from a deemed/recognized (AICTE) University.
- Experience in electrical power systems engineering for offshore or industrial facilities.
- Strong technical knowledge of offshore electrical systems, hazardous area requirements, and project execution models.
- Strong understanding of electrical equipment such as generators, transformers, large motors, VFDs, Power Management Load Shedding (PMLS) System, UPS systems, Motor Control Centers (MCC), and switchgear.
- Experience with Low Voltage, Medium Voltage, and High Voltage Systems
- Ability to provide sound technical judgment and risk-based decision-making in a project environment.
- Preferred Qualification:
- 10+ years of experience in an Electrical Engineering role with an owner operator or major engineering contractor
- Experience interfacing with multi-discipline engineering teams and external contractors.
- Experience supporting fabrication yards, offshore installation, commissioning, or start‑up activities
